Security Centre no longer supports Kaspersky

On booting this morning I got a Security Alert icon in the notification area.

In the Security Centre was the message, “Kaspersky is on but is reporting its status to Windows Security Centre in a format that is no longer supported.”

Also, Kaspersky’s firewall seems to have disappeared so I put Windows Firewall back on.

And the Kaspersky auto-tinkered settings in the Network and Sharing Centre have reverted to default.

I’m (supposedly) running Kaspersky Internet Security 2009, Vista with SP2, and IE8.

At the Kaspersky website is says the solution to this problem is to install SP2, and that the programme itself will be running fine.

I’ve had no trouble whatsoever with Kaspersky since I installed it 6 months ago; now this out of the blue this morning.

Anyone got any ideas as to what’s going on here? Thanks.

I would think the answer is to do the free upgrade to Kaspersky Internet Security 2010, and work from there. It’s been out for at least four months, if not more…

Have you tried turning Windows Fire wall completely off, (you may need to check its advanced setting to see whats its blocking to) then run Kaspersky repair tool, if you can’t find it start the program uninstall process.
Run its repair and see if that sorts it, if not i agree upgrade
My OS is Vista Premium on renewal I needed to install KISS 2010, now have build 9.0.0.736, so dit-to update to 2010

I didn’t realise the upgrade from Kaspersky 2009 to 2010 was free. I’ve just successfully done it to that version you mentioned Robert.

Now I’m all fixed up and everything’s hunky dory and back to normal. Cheers to you all.

I spoke too soon. Way too soon.

Not long after everything seemed okay, I blue-screened. Windows said the blue screen was related to my wireless driver, but surely this is an unlikely coincidence.

Anyway, I updated the Intel Driver, and that went okay. Then I done a full Defender scan (1’000’000 items – 3 hours) which found nothing.

This morning on booting, I got a bowel-loosening black screen.

“Checking file system on C:” “One of your discs needs to be checked for consistency” “CHKDSK is verifying files…” and other such gobbledegook (to me).

What a bleedin’ palavar. Maybe this CHKDSK thing is a good thing. It went through 5 mins worth of verifying gubbins and then restarted itself.

Then I done a full Kaspersky scan with my new 2010 version. 90 minutes; found nowt.

I may be speaking too soon again, but for the moment it seems okay. Christ knows what’ll happen next time I boot.

If you think you have any form of disk hardware problem, you’d better be sure you have at least one good backup!

Then go into a Command Prompt windows, and run CHKDSK C: /f /V /R , reply Y to the message about doing the chkdsk at the next restart. Close everything down and restart the PC. Probably wait hours for it to do its work, depending on how big your drive is. Maybe leave it overnight. When you find it has restarted, go into the System Event Log and look for WINLOGON records some time after you first rebooted the PC. They should tell you whether there are any real problems with the disk.

Yeah, I’ve got a recent full back-up on an external drive. Doing that is about the maximum level of my computer literacy.

As for the thing you recommend, I’m very reluctant to try anything “technical” like Command Prompts: wouldn’t even know how to!

Anything other than simply turning the sodding thing on and it working normally fills me with dread.

Whatever was wrong with my system, or is wrong, it seems windows itself realised and kicked in with its own CHKDSK thing.

At the moment, and for the past several hours, everything has been fine and seems particulary fast and snickerty.

You haven’t said (or you did, but I missed it!), what operating system you’re running.

Assuming it’s XP, to get a Command Prompt Window up, just click on Start then on Run, and type CMD in the Open: box and click on OK.

In the small black window you get, just type CHKDSK C: /F /V /R and press Enter. It will give you a lengthy message and ask if you want to let CHKDSK run at the next restart, to which you reply Y. Now type EXIT to leave the Command Prompt window.

You can now restart your PC, and wait for ages and ages while it checks the disk for you!

If windows update has somehow surrepticiously pushed them onto my machine, I’ll be relieved it’s not something more sinister.

No, it’s not that. I’ve got my updates set to notify, don’t download, don’t install. And it’s still at that setting.

And I check everytime I update what’s selected and what isn’t.

In the reliability monitor it lists them as having been installed, but there’s no sign of them anywhere else, except the mention in there.

They’re not in the update history, device manager, and I’ve done an advanced search, but with no luck.

So why are they listed as having been installed?!!!!
