Two restarts, the second at 100%, No hiccups.
Now running Windows 11 Pro Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.2314) I’ll wait for the push on my NAS and E5420.
24H2 is still a work in progress….
I just updated 3 Win 11 Pro 24H2 computers with KB5046617. (Two unsupported.) Everything installed very quickly with one restart.
[Task Manager (known issue)] Fixed: The count for the number of groups is wrong or always zero (0) on the Processes tab. This occurs when you turn on “Group by type.”
I noticed this one on Windows 11 Enterprise multi-session 23H2, which uses the Windows 8/10-style Task Manager instead of the new one. All of the process groups (Apps, Background processes etc) showed zero regardless of the number of processes. You can also replicate this on regular Windows 11 by running the 32-bit taskmgr.exe from SysWOW64.

There was an incidence of KB5048239 in the list of Win10 updates released today. Another try at the WinRE update. MS says:
This update automatically applies Safe OS Dynamic Update (KB5046913) to the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) on a running PC. The update installs improvements to Windows recovery features.
NOTE This update requires 250 MB of free space in the recovery partition to install successfully.
And:
IMPORTANT This update will not be offered if your Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) meets any of the following conditions:
- If the WinRE recovery partition does not have sufficient free space, see the NOTE in the “Summary” section. The note provides instructions about how to increase the available free space in the WinRE recovery partition.
- If the WinRE recovery partition was manually updated by using the procedure in Add an update package to Windows RE and is already up to date.
- If the WinRE image has a version greater than or equal to version 10.0.19041.5125. To determine the version of your WinRE image, check the WinREVersion registry value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion.
- If your running PC does not have a WinRE recovery partition. To verify if you have WinRE enabled, run the following command in an elevated command prompt: reagentc /info. If WinRE is enabled, you will see Windows RE status in the output with a value of Enabled. In this scenario, this update might be needed.
Was offered KB5048239, successfully installed it, and then discovered something a bit strange.
The free space on my recovery partition increased!
WinRE after Oct’s KB5046400.
WinRE after Nov’s KB5048239.
Yes it’s only +4 MB (which isn’t a lot) but, can anyone point out an update Microsoft issued in the last decade or so that actually reduced the size of whatever it was updating?!?!
Both of my other PC’s were updated with KB5048239 this morning and, just like the one above, the free space on both of them increased by 4MB!
The release notes don’t mention it at all, but it’s obviously something was removed from WinRE for version 5125.
The free space on my recovery partition increased!
How about your two PCs that had less than 200 MB free in the WinRe partition prior to installing KB5048239 #2717427. Was the free space also increased there after installing the new patch?
Edit: Sorry…I see that you’ve already answered this Q. Those two PCs still have less than 200 MB free, despite the increase in free space?
I still haven’t seen the new patch KB5048239 yet, although I received the two earlier ones (KB5034441 and KB5046400), despite the fact that the partition had 204 MB free before the 1st patch and 177 MB free before the 2nd one. After the 2nd one, it is 163 MB free.
Those two PCs still have less than 200 MB free, despite the increase in free space?
Since the free space on both of them was way less than 200MB (190MB & 172MB) and it only increased +4MB once KB5048239 was installed, that’s a yes!
I keep thinking I might get it, because my Win10/Pro-22H2’s WinRE free space is similar to one of your PC’s WinRE free-space history. {You said you got it about 2 days after the Nov Tuesday Patches were released.} If I get it, I’ll install it. If not, c’est la vie; I’m not going to expand the partition. I don’t use BitLocker and I don’t think I ever will.
2024-11 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 24H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5046617)
2024-11 .NET 8.0.11 Update for x64 Client (KB5047489)
Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool x64 – v5.130 (KB890830)
All installed without problems.
Now running Windows 11 Pro 24H2 build 26100.2314

Hello. I am on Windows 11 version 23H2. Is it still ok to utilize Microsoft tool ‘WUSHOWHIDE’ as a means to defer updates or should I instead now turn to one of the other two tools listed at https://blockapatch.com/

decide if we want to slurp them down now, or sit on the sidelines and review our options.
This is a two-edge sword.
On one side sitting on the sidelines to see if there are any bug, blocks..
On the other side hackers have the full list of vulnerabilities and can prepare attacks on none-patched PCs.
* I usually wait 2 days before updating providing there is no update disaster.

Hi CraigS26:
How did you check your .NET Framework version?
I haven’t installed the Nov 2024 Patch Tuesday updates on my Win 10 v22H2 machine yet, but the “Other Updates” section of my Windows Update history shows that KB5011048 updated my .NET Framework to v4.8.1 on 12-Oct-2023 …
… and this is confirmed by the ASoft .NET Version Detector utility. NOTE: This is a portable utility that dos not require installation and can be run from a removable USB stick.

Hi CraigS26:
I have the identical Version 4.8.0.09037 under Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full, but you should be looking at the value of the Release number.
The lookup table in the MS support article at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/migration-guide/how-to-determine-which-versions-are-installed#net-framework-45-and-later-versions shows that Release 533325 corresponds to .NET Framework v4.8.1 for most operating systems, including my Win 10 v22H2 OS.

Hi Susan:
Windows Update successfully installed all updates offered for the November 2024 Patch Tuesday on my Win 10 Pro v22H2 laptop, and I haven’t noticed any problems so far. This includes:
As usual, I observed the early “Restart Now” glitch that always occurs when Windows Update delivers a .NET Framework update with my other my Patch Tuesday updates (see my attached image). I just waited for my KB5046613 monthly Quality Update to finish installing and reach a status of “Pending Restart” before I clicked the “Restart Now” button.
I was not offered the KB5048239 (Windows Recovery Environment Update for Windows 10, Version 21H2 and 22H2: November 12, 2024) mentioned in PKCano’s post # 2717018 since my WinRE partition only has 96.7 MB of free disk space, and the re-issued KB5001716 (Update for Windows Update Service Components) described in the 11-Nov-2024 ghacks.net article Update for Windows Update Adds End-of-Support Actions still hasn’t been delivered.
The only obvious change I’ve noticed in my settings or Start menu is that the Copilot for Windows app described in the 25-Mar-2024 ghacks.net article Microsoft Copilot App Getting Installed on Windows Devices was finally delivered. I don’t want to uninstall it from Settings | Apps | Apps and Features (yet?) but I didn’t want the icon on my taskbar so I simply unpinned the icon as shown below.

P.S. This quote is about Copilot that was delivered in the Win 10 22H2 Nov,’24 patches. I’ve seen it called ‘Copilot for Windows’, ‘Windows Copilot’, and simply ‘Copilot’. [In Apps and features and in Start’s App menu, it’s listed as ‘Copilot’.]
@lmacri,
Have you initiated this app yet? What does it do? From what I understand, it’s glorified ‘Help,’ in that it answers queries about the version of Windows on your system. For example, it might answer the question “how do I change the time zone?” or “How do I turn on Airplane mode?” Is that right? Or does it do more than this — for example, answer the question “What can you tell me about the 23rd president of the United States?”
… From what I understand, it’s glorified ‘Help,’ in that it answers queries about the version of Windows on your system….Or does it do more than this — for example, answer the question “What can you tell me about the 23rd president of the United States?”
Hi WCHS:
It’s more than a glorified Help app. As far as I can tell this version of Copilot (a.k.a. Copilot for Windows) is a PWA (Progressive Web App) that gives you a local interface so you can access the full Copilot AI at https://copilot.microsoft.com/ without having to open your browser and browse to that website. Here’s what I see if I ask your question about the 23rd president:
FYI, if the Microsoft 365 Copilot app shown below also appears in your Start menu this is the PWA that can be used to access the free Microsoft 365 (Office) Word, Excel and Powerpoint web apps at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web without launching your browser. These free web apps are available to anyone with a Microsoft Account, even if they haven’t paid for a Microsoft 365 subscription or a one-time “perpetual” MS Office 2016/2019/2021/2024 license. See my post # 2746607 in Tex265’s 08-Feb-2025 Copilot and Microsoft 356 Copilot have just arrived – what to do?. AskWoody Plus members can learn more about these free web apps in Ben Myers’ 01-July-2024 article Web-based Microsoft 365 is a win-win for all in ISSUE 21.27 of the AskWoody Plus Newsletter.

It’s more than a glorified Help app….
I don’t subscribe to Microsoft 365. My Word and Excel come from a C2R/Retail version of Microsoft Office. I don’t have the Microsoft 365 Copilot app in my Start Menu. I have the Copilot (a.k.a. Copilot for Windows) app, instead. When I click on that, I get the same screen you did – it has the title “Copilot – Microsoft Copilot: Your AI Companion” with the Copilot icon, not the Microsoft 365 Copilot icon. I typed in the same message and got an answer, probably the same one you did. So, now I see how Copilot (for Windows) works.
Why would one click on the Sign-in in the upper right-hand corner? [At first, I thought you had to sign-in to get the AI Companion to work.] I’ve read the Ben Myers article, but I don’t yet see the connection between Copilot and the Microsoft-365-for- the-Web app.
Why would one click on the Sign-in in the upper right-hand corner?
I asked Copilot (“Why should I sign in to Copilot?”):
Signing in to Copilot offers several benefits to enhance your experience:
1. **Personalization**: Tailored recommendations and responses based on your preferences and history.
2. **Syncing Across Devices**: Access your conversations, projects, and preferences seamlessly across all your devices.
3. **Enhanced Features**: Unlock additional functionalities and tools that may be restricted to signed-in users.
I asked Copilot (“Why should I sign in to Copilot?”):
Isn’t there a difference between “signing into Copilot” and “signing into your MS Account”? I can ask Copilot a question and it answers back, so it appears that I am “signed-in” there. But, I think the icon in the upper right-hand corner is for signing into your account. Basically, the question is trying to get at the connection (if any) between being able to use Copilot and being signed into your account.
Isn’t there a difference between “signing into Copilot” and “signing into your MS Account”?
No. Sign into Copilot with a Microsoft account and you get the advantages of 1, 2, 3 above.
I see that you asked how one gets around saving to OneDrive, but I don’t see an answer. Did you figure that out?
Hi WCHS:
No, I haven’t bothered to search for an answer on how to change the Save location since I already have a “perpetual” edition of MS Office 2019 installed on my system and have no use right now for the free Microsoft 365 (Office) Word, Excel and Powerpoint web apps at https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-365/free-office-online-for-the-web. For now I’m just ignoring the associated Microsoft 365 Copilot PWA on my Start menu.
Support for my MS Office 2019 suite ends on 25-Oct-2025 so I’ll probably take a serious look at those free web apps later in the year.

My understanding (haven’t tested) is that the free Office web apps can “Save a Copy” locally, but documents can only be opened from OneDrive; so if the document is deleted from OneDrive, it would need to be uploaded again before the next edit:

Updated x3 Windows 11 Pro 23H2:
Two installations of Win11 Pro on ARM in Parallels 20 VMs on Apple Silicon Macs, one Win11 Pro hardware install on a low-end HP desktop.
MSRT (N/A on Apple Silicon VMs)
2024-11 CU for .NET Framework 3.5/4.8.1 KB5045935
2024-11 CU KB5046633 for Win11 23H2
Defender updates
Observations:
+ All three updates proceeded without problems.
+ The update on the HP desktop h/w install restarted at the normal 30%, hesitated at 98% then restarted a second time. The installs in the VMs did not experience a second install.
+ In all three installations, the WinRE partition was updated to Build 22621.4455
+ The background on the HP Hardware install was changed from “Picture” to “Spotlight.” I briefly checked a good number of similar types of settings (stuff on Taskbar, Lockscreen, Notifications, etc) and didn’t find any other Microsoft diddling. Much more digging is due along these lines.
I will add any other changes here if encountered.
Updated x3 Windows 10 Pro 22H2:
Win10 Pro in Parallels 20 VM on 2017 iMac4K (Intel Haswell i7)
Win10 Pro in Parallels 18 VM on 2012 MacBook Pro (Intel Ivy Bridge i7)
Win10 Pro hardware install on old Dell Studio XPS 1340 laptop
MSRT
2024-11 Security update for Win10 KB5048239 (WinRE update)
2024-11 Rollup for .NET Framework 3.5/4.8/4.8.1 KB5046524
2024-11 CU KB5046613 for Win10 22H2
Defender updates
Observations:
+ The five updates installed on all machines. None experienced a second restart during the installation.
+ Edge has been removed from all installations using AveYO’s script. At the same time, WebView2 Runtime was also removed from all machines, but was later reinstalled as an individual App on the iMac4K Win10 VM as required by a third-party app (see #2717550). As of this morning it remains installed with same version and install date.
+ KB5048239 installed during the initial update on two machines. On the 2012 MacBook Pro Win10 VM, it failed on download (not install) error 0x80070643. The rest of the updates installed without error, and after the restart, KB5048239 was re-offered, installed without error, and did not require an update.
+ The WinRE partitions on all three machines updated from Build 19041.5000 to Build 19041.5125. Even the one on which the download initially failed. All WinRE partitions are large enough, but not all are partition4 and after the OS partition. (see #2709725)
+ The Install process on the old Dell Studio XPS 1340 was different. After the usual restart at 30%, there was a long period before it continued counting the %s, where I observed the “waiting” rotating dots of two different resolutions one behind the other. Big ones for a while, then higher resolution ones below where the first had been. Never have seen this before!
+ All three installations seem to be functioning normally (pending further use?).
Onward to the two Win8.1 Pro installations!
Microsoft Edge updated today and this is the information when I open the browser. I can still use the browser. This is when it first opens to show you what is new with the browser. A search revealed it may be on Microsoft’s side and is a Javascript error? Anyone else? I have not updated November 2024 as yet.
Same thing when you search for getting to know Microsoft Edge.
Oops, sorry about the error! Cannot read properties of undefined (reading ‘default’)
Addendum: Looks like microsoft store is down per downdetector.
Win 10 Home 22H2
The only obvious change I’ve noticed in my settings or Start menu is that the Copilot for Windows app described in the 25-Mar-2024 ghacks.net article Microsoft Copilot App Getting Installed on Windows Devices was finally delivered.
Hi Susan:
I just noticed that the Dev Home (Preview) app discussed in WCHS’s 19-Sep-2024 topic Win 10/Pro Dev Home: What is this new System Component? was installed on my Win 10 Pro v22H2 machine on 14-Nov-2024, but I’m not entirely clear if it was installed as part of my Nov 2024 Patch Tuesday updates I installed that same day or if it was delivered via some other mechanism. I filed a bug report using the Microsoft Feedback Hub app on 14-Nov-2024 and vaguely recall seeing a pop-up about Dev Home so perhaps that was the trigger.
This app is listed at Settings | System | System Components and if I run TreeSize Free as an Administrator I can also see it listed in the hidden, protected folder at C:\Program Files\WindowsApps (see attached image). I can launch this app if I search for “Dev Home” (without the quotes) from the search box on my taskbar, but it isn’t listed at Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features or Setting | Apps | Apps and Features, and I can’t see it listed with the other apps in my Win 10 Start menu. I only realized that it had been installed because, like WCHS, I launched my Microsoft Store app to see if my Microsoft Store apps had any pending updates (see attached image).
I can change the setting of this Dev Home (Preview) app at Settings | System | System Components | Dev Home | Advanced Options so it won’t run in the background, but I haven’t found any way of uninstalling it other than running the PowerShell or Command Prompt commands shown in Brink’s ElevenForums tutorial Uninstall or Reinstall Dev Home app in Windows 11 and Windows 10 (which I haven’t tried yet).

Hi @lmacri !
I’ve had that show up on both of my computers at different times and have successfully removed it both times using the instructions here on AskWoody that also include a PowerShell command to completely de-provision DevHome so that it WON’T return in the future, either! Here’s the link:

That goes to a post from our own @RetiredGeek , who came up with the complete set of commands to not only remove DevHome, but also to de provision it so it doesn’t return consolidated what @PKCano had previously posted into a neat little package and removed a duplicated command. There are a total of three separate PowerShell commands to run. It would be a good idea to run ALL commands in an elevated instance of PowerShell (run as Administrator), that way you avoid issues of not having enough privileges to run them.
Although I posted about it on Sept 19, I didn’t get around to removing it (Dev Home) on both of my Win10/Pro 22H2 devices until Oct 9, a few days after I installed the Sept Patch Tuesday patches on Oct 6. I used the 3 Power Shell commands to remove and deprovision it. Later, on Nov 4, I installed the Oct Patch Tuesday patches. I haven’t installed the Nov Patch Tuesday patches yet. But, so far, it looks like it’s gone for good.
I just updated one supported and three unsupported Win11 Pro machines with optional previews, bringing me up to 24H2 26100.2454 All installed quickly with zero problems.

2024-11 Cumulative Update Preview for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 24H2 for x64 (KB5048162)
Updated 5x Updated Windows 11 Pro 23H2 (4 Dell, 1 VM). As per PKCano’s observation 2 of the Dell’s had the desktop wallpaper setting changed from “Picture” to “Windows Spotlight”.
I was able to change them back, but annoying to have personalization settings changed from my preferred selection.
I see that you asked how one gets around saving to OneDrive, but I don’t see an answer. Did you figure that out?
To turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive this is Microsoft’s instructions.
Turn off, disable, or uninstall OneDrive
I think the disable the link to your PC is the best solution.
HTH, Dana:))
There is no OneDrive listed under my personalfolder name. There was at one time, but I removed it somehow (breaking the link, removing it, disabling it — I don’t remember how) , so it’s not there any longer. I guess that means that I could save a file in some folder somewhere on my PC?
