My IE History pane has always listed 7 days of History, which is very useful to me. Now, for no apparent reason, it only shows me Today – all previous days are no longer listed. I checked my Internet Options, but it still shows Days in History set to 7. I cannot find a reference to this, except for an Windows XP issue (but I am running Windows 98) and a McAfee issue (but I am running Norton).

Can someone kindly help me reset this to maintain 7 days of History?
    Thank you.

If the History is not list for those days, it means that they have been deleted some time today and can not be retrieved. You will find out in a day or two if the setting is sticking, but until then you will have to wait the full seven days to see it is true.

Thank you for your reply, Dave. I certainly did not knowingly delete them anytime today, but I will do as you suggest and wait a few days to see if the history items list again by date. I’ll let you know, hoping for more help if the history isn’t there.

You cannot assume that just because you don’t see the History that means it is not there. This is Microsoft after all! smile

How are things working now? Do you see more than Today’s History?

I waited and waited, just to be sure, and so far it is sticking.
        Thank you for helping me.

One common cause of acute history save loss is McAfee Virus Scan 6 and there is a fix for that.

Thank you for your response, but I do not use McAfee. I am running Norton AntiVirus 2002.

          Thomas–

A number of things can interfere with history. Any Win tweaker including Tweak UI has a setting that can delete history if checked. I understand you didn’t actively do anything that would impact it. Any of the Windows cleaning programs and registry cleaning programs can. Have you rebooted since this happened or installed any new programs, and what about trying a system restore to before this happened if you have system restore in your OS? BTW What OS are you using?

Oh my, I do not understand what type of programs you are referring to, but I waited as Dave suggested and so far History has remained for the set number of days (7). I am on Windows 98 and the only programs I intentionally use to check/clean are Norton AntiVirus 2002 for viruses and LavaSoft Adaware 6.0 for “spyware”. I have run these since and it has not impacted the History. Could I be running Windows cleaning programs, registry cleaning programs or a Win tweaker without realising it?

I understand I must sound quite dense, sorry – this just isn’t what I know.
            Thanks for you help.

No. If you were running the reg cleaning programs I was referrring to and for certain only a few might do this, you would have downloaded them and you’d know it. NAV and AdAware won’t affect history at all–you need an antivirus program and AdAware is a very useful thing to be running.

As for these Win Tweakers, programs that make convenient check settings to do the same things you can do in the registry manually, you would have had to get them and check their settings the way you want things to be–those aren’t running in the background.

I’m glad you have it back and running.
