I’ve noticed from time to time that images won’t load, especially when I go to the MS Knowledgebase. (Usually haven’t had the problem with the Lounge though, but once in awhile, the reply, edit, etc. buttons are blank.) I have Internet Options/Show Pictures checked & also Always expand Alt text for images. Usually the problem goes away eventually, but it’s puzzling me. Sometimes it goes away after I rebuild the registry at the DOS prompt (Win98SE). Any ideas?

I can send to a FREE program that solved the same problem for me.Go to: http://www.ryansimmons.com/users/irfanview/english.htm
I hope that the installation if IrfanView will solve your Images not showing problem.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 6, 2002 at 4:33 am #606273Hi rm:
It seems to happen at certain times, not with certain pages. While it doesn’t happen with the Lounge often, it does happen. Yesterday I noticed it happening with both IE & Netscape 4.75. I generally use Zone Alarm & the only host file I use lists Ad Subtract (but I don’t load it when I go to the Lounge) & WOPR. I noticed this behavior before I made a host file, however. It’s just strange that it seems to happen after I clean out my registry & rebuild it at the DOS prompt using scanreg /fix /opt. -

AskWoody LoungerAugust 22, 2002 at 6:41 pm #610822Hi Phil,
I don’t know the reason for the problem, but it happens to me too sometimes.
I just run my little RegClean program from my desktop and after that everything is O.K.Try it, it’s faster than going to DOS prompt and rebuilding the registry. Only takes a few seconds.
If you don’t have RegClean, I can find the download link for you quickly. Let me know. -

AskWoody LoungerAugust 23, 2002 at 5:57 pm #611064Just for your information, I had no idea who Paul Castellano was until I got your message.
Just for curiosity I looked it up on the Internet where I found a web site with his bio and picture.
That’s how I had it “handy”.You jump into conclusions too quickly … remember not to do that to Sicilians!

AskWoody LoungerAugust 25, 2002 at 1:07 am #611240Hi, Ed ~
No, I wasn’t jumping to conclusions. I figured you did a Google. Surely you didn’t think I was serious.
It was tongue in cheek as you do bear resemblance. The facts seem to indicate Mr. Gotti followed through. I am half Sicilian via the LaFalce name on my mother’s side and they are a littel quick on the draw.

AskWoody LoungerAugust 23, 2002 at 12:25 am #610890Hi Ricky:
No. I only have Norton antivirus & Zone Alarm. I’ve actually tried turning everything off (no firewall, no antivirus, no popup stoppers–nothing but Explorer, systray, my internet connection & a browser. And it’s strange, because it will happen with Netscape 4.75 also. I wonder if my ISP (Earthlink) is blocking something, although that would be strange. -

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 6, 2002 at 8:07 pm #614759I have the exact same thing happen. I do a ie 6.0 repair and regclean to get the pictures back.
It is the same process for me as well – -ZA, Win98SE, and use same registry cleaners you mentioned.
Real pain is if I want to check the bank online and have to go thru those steps before I can bring up
the web page.DID you ever find a solution????

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 6, 2002 at 10:07 pm #614806Win 98SE, Zone Alarm, AVG antivirus. What is strange is that Netscape will
always work. – even Netscape 7.0. II thought it was just my system and have kept all the ie files on my drive for the repair
function. Haven’t just tried regedit. Is it just those of us with Win98SE??
Was really hoping someone had the solution. -

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 7, 2002 at 4:55 am #614868Yes they are checked. Seems that after the install of Netscape 7.0 – -then doing the repair of ie and regedit – -I have not had the problem – one week and holding. However, Netscape 7.0 seems to have broken spell check in Outlook 2000 and also creating a pdf file (out of memory error). I can still create a pdf in ie 6.0.
So somethings got better and some things got worse. donna

AskWoody LoungerOctober 16, 2002 at 4:39 pm #624689I’m convinced there has to be a bug in IE 5.5 and IE 6. There have been posts on this subject from a variety of people over the past year. Sometimes the discussion turns to solving the problem manually by making sure “Encoding” is not set to “European.”
I’ve also experienced the problem {i have Win98 SE and have had it happen in IE 5.5 and 6, even with all the security/bug fixes}. It never occurs in Netscape and has reached the point that I completely ignore using IE at all times.
Phil has been a great help to me, and other Loungers for quite some time, and if he can’t figure it out and make it work, “it is a bad day in Mudville!”

AskWoody LoungerOctober 16, 2002 at 5:44 pm #624701Hi Rick:
This last thing I tried that was suggested by a Lounger, which so far has been “holding up”, is to go to Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Scroll to IE/Add-Remove/Repair IE. It resets a few things that I have to change (I don’t like shortcuts added where MS wants them, etc.), but I’ve been able to download images since I did this.
Cheers, -

AskWoody LoungerOctober 16, 2002 at 6:28 pm #624711Phil,
Good point! I should have mentioned in my other post that I’ve tried this. It lasts for a week or so and then… poof! Back to the same old same old. The lastest MS security patch actually worked on my IE 6 for a couple of weeks before reverting back.
Funny thing is… I have no problems with IE 5.5 or 6 on my laptop or on my other desktop – both of which were purchased prior to January 2002. Both have Win98SE. both have Netscape. Both have the same software as on my newer desktop where no form of IE works. The major difference is that my older desktop and my laptop started with IE 5 whereas my new desktop started with IE 5.5.
Is there a connection? Hmm. I don’t know. But I still can’t help but think there is some kind of bug [perhaps begun with IE 5.5] that is being perpetuated. I wonder if there is a registry entry that keeps reverting back to a MS-determined setting?
