Win 10 Pro, 17134.1 on two machines – one domain-joined behind WSUS, one not. Both just manually checked for updates.

actually, the linked article states that KB4100375 was the first update to build 17133 which took those insiders to 17133.73

while Bogdan Papa says its now offered to others, I don’t see where it says it will take 17134.1 to 17134.5

That’s quite correct – and one more reason why it confounds me.

    • #190186

I had reported under Patch Lady’s GUI Simplification post the other day that update deferral settings were previously (1709) in the registry at HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate but had changed to HKLM\SOFTWARE\PolicyManager.

Well, right after I checked now to see if I was offered the update to 17134.5, the deferral settings moved again in the registry to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UpdatePolicy

      Regardless, no update to .5

I’m on 17134.1 upgraded through Windows update yesterday. No updates today but Defender update. So far anyway.

Not seeing KB4100375 in WSUS or Microsoft Update catalog.

Same here. Used upgrade in place from USB to install 1803 on May 1.

No further updates yet (except the Office one). Still at build 17134.1.

    • #190237

You have to be on the insider rings to release to get the .5 update, which is quite small and I doubt it really fixes anything. If you aren’t on the insider rings it won’t be offered to you period. Nothing has changed.

    • #190281

My insider system got the update to .5 and I manually upgraded the other systems to .5 as they were not getting it from MS Update.

Even after a mystery update today 5/5/18, still on 17134.1

Yeah, that’s the chart Susan was talking about — it doesn’t conform to any of the previous nomenclature.

My apologies if everyone else in the world knows about this but me, but a colleague referred me to this article, which claims that Win 10 updates can be turned off:

      http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-turn-off-automatic-updates-in-windows-10-via-registry/

If it works, it removes one of my major objections to upgrading from Win 7.

I don’t have a Win 10 machine to try it out on. Please can someone try this and post the results?

That’s the original method for disabling Windows Update, wuauserv.

I don’t recommend that approach. Try this:

      https://www.computerworld.com/article/3268087/microsoft-windows/watch-out-for-continuing-bugs-turn-off-windows-update-temporarily.html

I’ll have a refresher on Monday.

I’ll look forward to that refresher. Out of curiosity, why is the original method not recommended?

Disabling wuauserv has too many unknown side-effects. At least, I suspect it does.

The alternatives seem to work just as well, without completely cutting off the update service.
