      Hi Woody,
      In the second article you listed above, it says to download and install KB955430 before installing SP2 for Vista. I have got this update through Windows Update and have not installed it so far as I read here that some people have had troubles rebooting after install.

      (https://www.askwoody.com/category/microsoft-windows-patches-security/)

      I am wondering if the DEFCON level for KB955430 has changed and if I should download and install it?
      Also, will there be a DEFCON alert for SP2 or should I download and install when it comes through Windows Update?
      ~Thanks

      Thanks
      Liz

      Hi Liz, I’m EP, not Woody.

      Microsoft has just posted Vista/Server 2008 Service Pack 2 at the Microsoft Download Center and should also now be available at Windows Update.

      You may want to hold off in installing KB955430 and Vista SP2 for a while. We’ll wait for a response from Woody when he says if it’s safe to install these two updates.

      Thanks, EP. Yep, they’re up, and I recommend that people hold off until we’ve seen what problems they create. (Thanks also to MR for the heads up.)

      Hello,
      Sorry EP.. Nice to meet you! 🙂

      OK.. will hold off until I get the green light from you guys.
      Thank you!

      This morning attempted to download and install the sp2 update and recieved along with it a viris…Mal/MDROP-GEN. Installation failed.

      Only the five language standalone download of Vista SP2 is available at Microsoft Download Center and Microsoft Update Catalog. The all language standalone download of SP2 will be posted later in June and SP2 should also be available on Windows Update shortly.

      I still think you should wait for a few months, Liz. Some users who have attempted to install Vista SP2 recently are having installation problems with it. I’ve already seen posts at the MS Technet forums about their problems.

      Mike –

      Your antivirus package is screwing up. Disable it.

      Which AV do you use? (Let me guess… it’s Norton.)

      – Woody

      thanks for the response woody. No, Norton died in my confidence a couple years ago. The AV The virus got through was Webroot Av&spy. has everybody know about (Mal/MDrop-Gen)? Webroot never heard of it.

      Joh –

      Windows Live OneCare is a piece of junk – expensive junk that Microsoft will discontinue next month. Se Windows Vista All-In-One Desk Reference For Dummies for details, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Live_OneCare for info about the last gasp.

    • #59708

      ok so they stoped making one care when i had it on my system it removed a virus for me it seem to work well for me what kind of av would you recomend i have mcfee on my system right now its a piece of junk to is there any av software that is good to use and how is the sp2 going do you know yet.

    • #59710

      DIDO, word for word. With Steve.

    • #59711

      i installed vista sp2 i caved lol so far so good im doing a virus scan now hope it doesnt find a virus like the others

    • #59712

      Several kinds of antivirus and antispyware software are mistakenly detecting SP2 and their files as malware or virus. If you have obtained SP2 legally from the Microsoft site and your security software is detecting SP2 as malware/virus, please report the SP2 “false positives” to the makers of those antivirus/antispyware programs so that they can update their detection files to no longer detect SP2 as malware/virus.

      @Steve
      : UNblock your Webroot Antivirus/Antispyware security package to allow Vista SP2 to install. also, contact Webroot about the Vista SP2 “false positive” problem so that they can offer a fix to it.

      @john
      : Don’t bother getting “Morro” or any microsoft antivirus solution because Morro is NOT even available to the public yet until near the end of 2009. I recommend using Avast, Avira or AVG as these three free antivirus products are very good. and DUMP McAfee as soon as possible.

    • #59713

      i stay away from free programs but im going with kaspersky for my next av
