Win7/8.1 patch problems linked to Sophos Anti-VirusBy Woody Leonhard
We have official confirmation from Sophos this morning that this month’s Win7 and 8.1 patches cause freezes and lockups on machines that are running Sophos Anti-Virus.
It’s not clear at the moment if the foul-ups with Sophos are the full extent of the problem, so it’d be very wise to avoid patching Win7, Win8.1, Server 2008 R2 and Server 2012 R2 machines until the coast is clear.
There’s also some confusion over whether the Monthly Rollups and/or the Security-only patches trigger the tantrums. Best advice, as always, is to wait and see how the cannon fodder fares.
This event is a fine example of why you should hold off on updating, eh?
