Hands on with the Windows 10 preview: What works, what doesn’t
I think you’ll be surprised to see the dek on this post:
With a few small steps backward and some giant leaps forward, Windows 10 is shaping up as a worthy successor to Windows 7
Yep, you read that correctly. Win10 is shaping up to be downright usable. Still too early to know for sure, of course, but the chicken entrails are starting to line up.

Big Windows 10 KB 3035129 patch also fixes Fast ring option
I haven’t seen this problem – or its solution – documented anywhere. Kinda cool.

Windows can’t be installed because this PC uses a compressed operating system.
I know, it’s frustrating.
If you’re trying to install the latest Windows 10 build on a Windows 8.1 machine, you may be greeted by that notice. I got it while trying to put build 9926 on a brand new Asus Transformer.
The culprit? WIMboot. It’s a Microsoft technology that squeezes Windows into a smaller footprint, so Windows can essentially boot from a compressed image. That’s great for cheap machines, but it doesn’t play well with the Windows 10 installer.
I haven’t found any workaround. After trying for an hour to install 9926 directly from a UEFI-enabled USB drive, I finally gave up. Sorry, Rufus. No luck.
