Welcome to Patch Monday – bug fixes for Creators Update (KB 4040724) and for Anniversary Update (KB 4038801)
Hey, if you’re gonna release out of band patches while the cats are away in Orlando, might as well make it a double.
Today we got two – count ’em two – patches for the two latest versions of Windows 10. One’s pushed out through Windows Update, the other’s a hotfix that you have to install manually.
- KB 4040724 brings Win10 Creators Update version 1703 up to build 15063.632. It’s supposed to fix the two acknowledged bugs in the earlier September cumulative update.
- KB 4038801 brings Win10 Anniversary Update version 1607 up to build 14393.1737. Top item on the fix list: Updated the BitLocker.psm1 PowerShell script to not log passwords when logging is enabled. For some reason, these fixes are not being released for Server 2016. Go figger. It’s a hotfix; you must manually download this patch, if you want it.
In addition, there’s a warning that you may get a Servicing Stack update:
Windows Update Client Improvement
Microsoft will release an update directly to the Windows Update Client to improve Windows Update reliability. It will only be offered to devices that have not installed any recent cumulative updates and are not currently managed (e.g., domain joined).
Of course, we’re still at MS-DEFCON 2. Sit tight. No idea if either or both of these new patches will cause havoc.

This one’s supposed to fix the HP-related ten-minute blackouts, as well as the problems with Edge.

Weird update: Nodwarca reports that he has TWO copies of KB 4038788 listed under Installed Updates, one installed Sept 12, the other Sept 24. Anybody else see that?
