  • Outlook Express 6 warning

I don’t use Outlook Express – Microsoft stopped supporting it in the Paleolithic era – but I know some of you still do. My suggestion to anybody stuck in OE 6 are to upgrade to Gmail or, if you must, Outlook.com.

That said, I received an interesting warning from reader RS about the latest junk mail filter update for OE. Here’s what he said:

Hi Woody I have XP sp3 Outlook express 6.

I put in the latest Junk mail filter update and found out that after the latest update under tools/message rules if you write a rule with the word “win” in the “subject” or “body” it takes out a message with the word “mowing” and other words in the body, other words in other rules will remove other words in other e-mails.

If you test it make a serrate folder in outlook with the test e-mail in it and have your new rule delete to the junk folder.

I had 20 rules and had them set to delete not a great idea over 465 old and new e-mails disappeared when I ran it on the in box. I was trying to figure why my incoming mail was reduced this last week. I tried going to the MS site to report it…… Not User Friendly….

    Maybe you could warn others.

It’s odd that the junk mail filter’s behavior would change abruptly, but given all the care MS applies to OE (which is to say,  none), it isn’t terribly surprising.
