The correct error code: Error Code: 0x80004005

    • in reply to: Outlook 2013 can’t locate the specified server. #1557099

      Error Code Ox800040005.
I click on Account Settings. The screen that comes up says: mail.ckt.net (2) POP/SMTP
This is highlighted. And it’s the same as the bar across the top of the account info page.

If this isn’t the server name, you need to help me locate it.

No, not setting up a new email account. I checked the account settings but didn’t know what I was supposed to be looking for. I could see that the ISP name, my user name and password were correct.

Thank you for your reply. I don’t know what these terms mean: GPUs based on Maxwell, Kepler, Fermi, and Tesla architectures. How do I find out which of those apply to my computer?

Thank you. See my post below. I did check and SSL3.0 and 2.0 were unchecked.

I went through all the steps. Still didn’t work. I uninstalled office and reinstalled it. At the same time Adobe Acrobat wouldn’t attach pdf to email. As a last resort, I did a system restore to April 10 and started over with the Windows updates installing them one by one and checking to see if IE and Adobe still worked. They worked through all the installed updates. I was unable to install nVidia – Display – NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 and declined the Skype installation. By the process of elimination I’m guessing that NVidia was causing the problem.

Thank you for your help. I did all the things you suggested and still have the problem. I was able to contact the customer support at Realtor.com. They advised all the things you advised and then told me that Realtor.com doesn’t work very well on Internet Explorer. They also got the ribbon across the top of the page that told them they needed to update their version of IE. The agent told me that, like me, he had the most recent version and he was getting the ribbon, too. As rich and powerful as the National Association of Realtors is, it looks like they could get a website that worked. Guess not.

News of Microsoft’s concern for the privacy of users information came at about the same time those of us who have used Microsoft Money Portfolio Manager for years got the news that it would be discontinued on December 22. Despite an abundance of protests and cries of dismay from thousands of loyal users of Microsoft products, Microsoft is going ahead with plans to discontinue the Portfolio Manager. They have advised users to migrate their data to Microsoft Money My Watchlist. Problem is that for most of us the migration didn’t work and we lost years of investment data. So much for loyalty to Microsoft.

I installed Internet Explorer 11. Afterwards I could not access MSN Money – Portfolio Manager. I kept getting a screen asking me to verify my systems ? and make sure MS Silverlight was compatible with my system. I went through all that, uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it, restarted my computer and still got the same problem.
I also found that the “Favorites” drop down stopped working like it was supposed to. I’d click on Favorites, the drop down did, and then immediately went away. I also found that putting an address in the addressline at the top of the internet explorer page stopped filling in what I was typing after the first word.
I tried the stuff recommended by Microsoft Community to no avail. Then I figured out that the problem started happening after I downloaded and installed the 15 updates and installed Internet Explorer 11. So I did a system restore back to before the updates and IE11. Reinstalled IE10, the updates, tried the MSN Money>Portfolio Manager and it worked fine. It will probably be awhile before I install IE11 again.

    • in reply to: upgrade to Office 2010 #1234491

I was trying to save the $200 plus difference between MS Office Professional 2007 and 2010. I downloaded MS Office 2007 and installed it from “ALBERTA.LTD”. It seems to work just fine. However, the key is unacceptable to MS for the upgrade. I have tried to contact MS by phone, email, and chat to see if there was some way to make the software I have acceptable but I have been unable to communicate with a human being or anyone other than a “support” person who sends me a link to the upgrade page.

      royal discount.com.
      I think that’s irrelevant.
What is relevant is the statement:
As no one will actually know if their product qualifies until they register with Microsoft we cannot guarantee our product (or any product) will work!

Which explains, I think, the reason no one, including Woody, is able to give a definite answer to the question: How do I know, before I spend the money, if the Microsoft Office Professional 2007 software i buy will be acceptable to Microsoft for an upgrade?
Since there is no answer, I think it is a dis-service to pimp the cheap upgrade issue.

    • in reply to: Office 2007 online sellers #1234128

Here is the reply I received from one re-seller when I asked if the Microsoft Office Professional 2007 they were offering was elgible for the Office 2010 upgrade:
Thank you for checking with us.
MS is being tricky with this free upgrade. It is not only when you purchase product but when the product was manufactured. As no one will actually know if their product qualifies until they register with Microsoft we cannot guarantee our product (or any product) will work!

My take on this is there’s no way to tell if the product you buy, regardless where you buy it or how much you pay, will qualify until you’ve spent the money. Therefore, the MS Upgrade offer is just fecal material from a bull.

Here’s the response when I asked one of the “high end” vendors if their copy of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 would qualify for an upgrade.

Thank you for checking with us.

    • in reply to: Act NOW to save money on Microsoft Office 2010 #1232476

Woody’s article implied there were sources of MS Office 2007 at fire sale prices. Microsoft says buying a copy on Ebay doesn’t qualify. How do I find a MS Office Professional 2007 cd or download that qualifies without buying it and running the product key through Microsoft’s validation?: How do I locate an approved vendor selling a Microsoft approved product. The question comes up because I bought a copy of MS Office Professional 2007 for $125.99 which was advertised as a “full” copy. When I tried to install it, Microsoft turned it down because the product key was invalid.

    • in reply to: Error 1303 Installing Office 2007 #1232352

Thanks for your help. Changing the settings for C:Program FilesCommon Files fixed the problem. Office 2007 successfully installed. Now looking for the upgrade to Office 2010.
