      Hi Coochin,
      Thanks for your reply…

I have checked the settings in the ‘BIOS’ screen and they are as follows :

      Boot Mode : [Legacy BIOS]
      Secure Boot : Disabled

      Boot Priority
      1. Atapi CDROM
      2. HDD
      3. USB FDD
      4. Network Boot
      5. USB HDD
      6. USB CDROM

I have not changed any of these settings. Looking at the configuration, I would expect that the system should boot from a CD which was created using the Windows 7 built-in procedure. It seems strange that it will not boot from this CD, but will boot from the Hiren’s CD.

Problem Solved ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ve just had a reply from Canon customer support advising me to download a different set of drivers. Did so this afternoon and now everything is working fine on the Win 7 64 Bit installation and wireless link !! So I won’t need the Virtual PC now.

They also provided the link to the MP Navigator referred to by ‘wavy’ but as yet, I haven’t installed that software, since the new drivers allow me to successfully access the printer and scanner from both my photo editor programs. However, I’ll give it a try later…..

Thanks again for all your support ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for your replies ๐Ÿ™‚ they are appreciated.

      1. smithdoor : Everything else works OK in the Windows 7 / Virtual XP system so I wouldn’t think there is any point in using an alternative Virtual PC program.

      2. F.U.N. downtown : I try your suggestion to see if there is such a utility. The Win 7 32 Bit laptop also communicates with the printer wirelessly and works fine. I’ll try connecting the printer/scanner via USB just as a test to the Virtual XP PC system – if that works, then it would seem – as you suggest – there is a problem with the wireless link……

      3. wavy : I’ve already emailed Canon customer support about the problem, but as yet, no response…. I’ll wait a few more days and try again….
Thanks for the link to MP Navigator – I’ll give it a try on both Win 7 64 Bit and on the Virtual XP PC. Lots of things to try…..

      Hi Photorer,
Thanks for your reply. The laptop is an Acer TravelMate P253 Core i5 8GB 500GB Windows 7 Pro / Windows 8 Pro

Still no reply from the supplier…… ๐Ÿ™

Thanks for your replies – much appreciated.

I tried to make the 25GB partition visible in ‘My Computer’ by assigning it a drive letter, using the facility in the Disk Management facility. However, I was unable to do so, since there is no Right Click context menu available when that partition is selected. This restriction also applied to the other hidden partitions. I wanted to do this so that I could examine the content of the hidden partition.

As advised, I have contacted my supplier and I’m waiting for their reply…….

Thanks for your replies – they are truly appreciated …

I have an image of my C: drive on and external USB drive, which was created shortly after I installed Windows 7 and some of my applications. I’m not sure if this would allow me to get back to make the choice of Win7 or Win 8…..

When I go the Disk Management facility, I can see three hidden partitions :
      1. Healthy (Recovery Partition) Capacity 400MB
      2. Healthy (EFI System Partition) Capacity 300MB
      3. Healthy (Recovery Partition) Capacity 25.48 GB

Would any of these partitions help ???

Here is the message that has just been posted:

it sounds like all you need is the windows disk management tool as you originally stated.

When you say that your data files are on your D drive, these include your Desktop, Doc, Download, Music, Pics, Videos, etc, etc, etc Folders, right?
      ***************

However, This reply does not appear in the thread !!!

In response to the question – apart from the Windows 7 OS, there is nothing stored on either drive – it’s a brand new Laptop. The “Desktop, Doc, Download, Music, Pics, Videos, etc, etc, etc Folders” will remain in their normal position, but will be virtually unused since I create new folders for all my data on the D: Drive.

      Thanks for your observations….. ๐Ÿ™‚

      Hi there RetiredGeek,
Thanks so much for the quick response ๐Ÿ™‚ and your good advice. I’ll certainly try your recommended tools. There’s nothing on my new laptop’s disks as yet (Except windows 7…) so maybe disk imaging is not too important – however, I’ll make an image of my C: Drive just in case. I usually just use the imaging facility within Windows 7 to make my images on and external USB Drive, and always found it to be reliable….

Thanks again for your help – it is truly appreciated ๐Ÿ™‚

Re ; Fred’s article on ReImage – what a great analysis of that dreadful utility !!
I bought a licence a couple of years ago and ran the program – result? A totally hosed laptop!!
I had to totally re-install windows 7 and luckily, I had backups of all my data….
After some considerable hassle, I eventually managed to get a refund.

I used this program as a result of reading an advertisement on the ‘Windows Secrets Newsletter’ !!

Quote : Reimage – Your PC Will Thank You!
98% of Windows PCs suffer from performance issues less than 10 months after purchase. Reimage is the only proven PC repair tool that safely cleans up your system and makes it run like new again. Guaranteed instant results or your money back, no questions asked.

I notice that the advertisement does not appear in the latest versions of the newsletter…. I wonder why ???

Incidentally, I loved the article ‘Underused tools hiding in Windows 7 and 8’ By Michael Lasky
Some little gems in there !!!
