AskWoody LoungerI tried your SHORTCUT and nothing happens. I click on it and it just sits there?????

WStrebor
AskWoody Loungerhow do you create a shortcut to the command?
-
WStrebor
AskWoody LoungerYes – the manual is very clear that you can have both SIMM and DIMM modules. And when I put in the 64 MB DIMM, the BIOS POST screen changed to 80 MB. I will try removing the SIMM and leave in only the DIMM to see what I get for a reading and let you know.

AskWoody Loungersorry – that system is “gone”. The unknown devices were simply listed under OTHER DEVICES. And there was nothing not working that should be working. Pretty basic unit – sound card, modem, video card and network card all recognized and working. Tis strange.

AskWoody LoungerYou nailed it – thanks so much.

AskWoody LoungerThanks Mark – I went to Langa’s site and will try his suggestion. But I have a question for you – I have another CD drive that does work from the generic drivers from the startup disk. What if I used that disk to load WIN 98 and then re-connected the old cd drive and loaded a driver for it that I found on the internet. That seems to be a simpler process. What do you think?

AskWoody LoungerI think I solved the problem – the Aptiva comes with a program called RAPID RESUME which “wakes” the computer when the phone rings. I went into setup and disabled the RAPID RESUME program. Will see if that truly solves the problem.

AskWoody LoungerAs it turns out, his system seems to be fine now. If it happens again, how do we do the repair. I know he has a DELL recovery disk – will it bring up the “repair” option automatically?

AskWoody LoungerWhat I am looking for is info as to whether there will be a probem uninstalling from the computer that got the activation wizard. We just want to get it off that system without creating a problem.

AskWoody LoungerHe changed the user name, not the account name. But it does not seem to be “taking”. I know we are doing everything according to the book but wondered if there was a known bug or something?

AskWoody LoungerWhen you send an email, the “display”name is listed as who the email is from.

AskWoody LoungerSolved the problem by downloading and installing CODEC. Thanks Mark.
