You didn’t explain which it you used! What does Disk Management show? (Many ways in, Right cick on My Computer, choose Manage, then click on Disk Management; or run diskmgmt.msc in a command prompt window, or Run.)

      DISK MANAGEMENT shows the following:

Disk 1 Basic 232.88 GB Online

Then it shows the two partitions as follows:

HP Recovery (E:) 9.50 GB Fat 32 Healthy

      (F:) 223.37 GB Healthy (Active)

There is a DELETE PARTITION within the Disk Management options – if I delete both partitions, how do I then create a new single partition?

Do you mean 9GB of free space? Does it show used space? More than one partition?

      Joe

It shows one partition of 9 GB. That is all.

    • in reply to: Export messages from WLM to OE #1155149

What is the best way to move email messages from WLM to OE. A friend has decided she wants to “downgrade” from Windows Vista back to XP. I have exported her WLM messages to a folder but they all have a “number” for the name rather than who the message is from and the subject, etc. Can these be imported back into OE?

Oops, my question should be about moving email messages from WINDOWS MAIL to Outlook Express – not WLM. She is using Windows Mail which comes with Vista.

    • in reply to: how to open MSG files #1153945

I have Outlook 2007 and Outlook Express 6. When I send me a mail with a .msg attachment with Outlook, I receive it in Outlook Express and I can open the .MSG attachment by double clicking on it.

It does not work for me or my friend. I went into FOLDER OPTIONS and set up the MSG file to open with outlook Express and now when I double click on the attachment, nothing happens at all.

Did your friend un-hide the protected System files before they did the search ??

The .dbx files should be in…..
      C:Documents and SettingsUser’s NameLocal SettingsApplication DataIdentities{7DF0B216-7880-4632-B8F0-FFE4684A8942}MicrosoftOutlook Express

Yes he did un-hide the protected System files – he was able to find all of the other DBX files – just could not find the ones that went missing.

Does he have a recent backup?

      Joe

No suck luck, he does not do backups.

    • in reply to: Search Companion in WIN XP #1150280

I’ll have to leave this for the Windows experts, sorry.

Went over to my friend’s home today and found that the SEARCH window was opening somewhat small and she had to scroll down to see all of the options. She simply was not aware of the scroll bar and that the options were down lower in the page. Sorry for the confusion.

    • in reply to: Search Companion in WIN XP #1149998

      Let her try the following:

      Select Start | Search
      Click ‘Change Preferences’.
Click ‘Change Files And Folders Search Behavior’.
      Select ‘Advanced’.
      Click OK.

She does not have the CHANGE PREFERENCES option available.

I agree with you. As a volunteer, I “redo” donated computers at the local Humane Society Thrift Store and always try to salvage parts for future use. But in this case, I think I will be able to better spend my time on other projects than this. And besides, I think I have about 30 hard drives sitting in a drawer. Thanks viking.

Is there a way to simply import the data back into Outlook when I set up her new system?

    • in reply to: sm bus controller problme #1141279

I helped another friend downgrade a Dell system from Vista to XP. It was very interesting to find that the Dell needed the same drivers as the Gateway – again all related to NVIDIA. Dell however had drivers available for XP which Gateway did not. The SM Bus controller was part of the video card driver. The other bridge device was actually the Nvidia Network Card. Thanks again for your help.

I had my friend install FOXIT READER which worked just fine. She then uninstalled Acrobat Reader. Thanks for your help.

Yup – it was there. Once we delete it, is there a way to have Spybot do another Registry backup?

    • in reply to: Problem sending email (OE 6) #1140814

Turned off email scanning with Trend Micro – did not change anything. Can OE be repaired? Can OE be reinstalled? Any other suggestions? Thanks for your help.

Hi Viking 33, Did you see DIEGO’s suggestion about SUNBIRD – it worked. Just wanted to let you know and again say thanks for your help.
