      Select Edit | Find… or press Ctrl+F.
Enter ~*12 in the “Find what” box. (The ~ tells Excel to treat * as a literal character instead of a wildcard.)
You may want to click Options >> and specify that you want to search the entire workbook in the Within dropdown.
Make sure that Formulas is selected in the Look in dropdown.
Click “Find Next” or “Find All”.

Is there any way I can put this in a formula to return a value I can sort on? I’d like to have this in an audit column as a permanent part of the workbook. I want some cell to tell me “there’s a problem on this row”-myself or someone else.

      Worked fine, thanks.

Could I have some advice on what I should be my initial steps when I power up the unit for the first time? What should I do as far as setup steps? WHat should I wait a while to do? THere is probably a good sequence of steps that ensure an orderly setup and prevent later issues. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Got my answer from a previous posting. Thanks. Can’t delete this post, however.

I noticed the colors are different in 2007, could you have a converted 2007 workbook?

Most definitely. Some areas of the company are on 07 and some on 03. Anything to be done?

    • in reply to: Office 2003 updates #1158970

This sounds close to my problem: my old PC crashed, taking everything with it. I have the OEM Office 2003 disks and product key. Will I be able to install that on my replacement PC?

    • in reply to: Color palette changes #1158959

The color palette is stored in each workbook.

Do you have default templates Book.xlt and Sheet.xlt in the XLSTART folder? If so, these are used when you create a new workbook / insert a new worksheet. Open each of these templates (if present) and reset their color palette in the Color tab of Tools | Options, then save them.

No go. Did as advised, closed Excel, restarted with an existing workbook, same defective color scheme. That’s the whole issue: I click Reset and nothing happens.

Going to the reset the color pallette step does not work. a) are these color changes permanent where do I go to get the correct flie to replace on this laptop? Files shown via projector to large groups are hard to read when the colors are different than planned. TYIA

Thanks. I neglected to rename Sheet1 to DATA. Now the macro starts off by renaming the active sheet DATA and it works.

I’d recommend you try Vista for a week or two before thinking about changing UAC. Once you are finished installing your application programs UAC should settle down. NOTE: be sure to execute the installers with the context menu “run as administrator”. Older programs which are not architected to Vista standards may not install correctly otherwise.

Once you feel you are ready to do some tweaking see WinBubble 1.76, “Customization and Tweaks, Not Just for Geek’s But For ALL” – UnlockForUs and/or Tweak UI For Windows Vista : Ultimate Windows Tweaker From WinVistaClub. Both are free and easy to use.

As far as security software goes, what do you want? A security suite or individual programs? With Vista at home I use the Windows firewall and FREE antivirus software with spyware protection: avast! Home Edition.

I thought Windows firewall was a one-way firewall that did not protect against either the inbound or outbound direction of threats. I am using FIOS high speed interenet, so I have a router between the pc and the net. Let me know why you think Windows firewall is sufficient. If it is, great! But that isn’t the impression I have. OK, appreciate the comments. Will research the above references and post further questions. I think my new rule is: the older I get, the simpler I want things. Like breathing. I’ll be back.

    • in reply to: New user seeks advice #1157862

My main interest is in firewall, since I use AVG Antivirus. I am on FIOS high speed internet, if that matters. Don’t want to bog down in performance.

    • in reply to: New PC advice #1156937

Right. I was referring to the processor description itself, which refers to memory as3MB or 6MB. I believe it impacts the speed at which memory can deliver data to the processor.
On a separate topic, what about these “Media center” PCs? endpcnoise.com offers a Media Center pc in the price range of the “regular” pc and I’m wondering if I should consider that. I have a 48″ Philips HDTV (So I can enjoy Turnberry this summer) and Verizon FIOS with an HDTV Recorder. I’ve read some discussions on saving files to pcs and related topics. Any opinions on “Media Center” pcs? Thanks again.

    • in reply to: New PC advice #1156933

Final question: the options offer 3MB or6MB of memory (I guess) for the processors. Is that extra memory useful? Does it enhance performance or is it fluff? Thanks!

    • in reply to: New PC advice #1156211

Thanks for the feedback. No opinions on processor speed or memory? I’ll assume more is better and act accordingly. I thought people were dissatisfied with Vista and reverting to XP..should that be a consideration or is more memory, the graphics card, and a better processor enough to offset?
