You could install the Tab Killer extension, it will disable the tabbed browsing features of Firefox.

The version on the main Tab Killer add-ons page only works with up to Firefox 3, to get a version that works with the latest version of Firefox go to https://addons.mozil…s/versions/1938 and install version 2.0.2009110201

Close Firefox, go to your profile folder
      In that folder delete extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini and compatibility.ini
When you restart Firefox you can try re-installing Adblock Plus. If one of those 4 files is corrupt it can cause problems installing and uninstalling add-ons.

I do not have the Ultimate version of Win 7, however, what would it take to upgrade to Ultimate? The purchase of a downloadable upgrade from Microsoft? Purchase of a disc? What kind of cost and where would one go if this is possible. What else does one get with an Ultimate version of Win 7.

Upgrading to the Ultimate version is quite easy. Click on the start button, and in the search box type anytime, that will show a program called Windows Anytime Upgrade. If you run that program it will give you the option of going online to upgrade to Windows Ultimate, also giving details about the extra features available.

The upgrade will unlock the features of the Ultimate edition, the Windows 7 installation DVD contains all of the features in all versions of Windows 7, the upgrade will give you a product key that unlocks the extra features of Windows 7 Ultimate.

The Windows 7 site shows the additional features found in different versions of Windows 7.

You need Windows 7 Ultimate edition to be able to switch between languages, that version has 35 languages that you can choose. From Windows 7: Compare Windows 7 Home Premium, Professional, and Ultimate

Some issues with add-ons to be aware of.

The IE Tab add-on is not compatible and can cause crashes, an alternative is the Coral IE Tab add-on.

If you have multiple home pages and have Firefox set to open your home pages at start, if you have Tab Mix Plus installed only the first 2 home pages will load.

If you use the Torbutton add-on, make sure you upgrade to Torbutton 1.2.4 before installing Firefox 3.6, version 1.2.3 can cause problems with bookmarks (you will appear to lose bookmarks). If you have Torbutton 1.2.3, disabling it solves the problem.

Have installed these two – but no icons have appeared, and Quicknotes (and Xmarks) isn’t on the Tools menu. I might try reinstalling Firefox

Re-installing Firefox will not help. You need to re-install any add-ons that you have used, and if after restarting Firefox the add-ons do not appear in the tools menu or the toolbars, check the options dialogs for the add-ons to see if there is a setting to add the icon to the toolbars.

Another troubleshooting step is to create a new profile. Firefox stores user data in a profile, by creating a new profile you can test to see if the problem is caused by something in your profile. For details of how to do this see creating a new Firefox profile on Windows – MozillaZine Knowledge Base

If the new profile does not have the problem, you can transfer some data, such as your bookmarks, links which show how to do that are contained in the article I linked to on creating a new profile.

If a new profile does not solve the problem, it indicates an outside application may be causing the problem, this will include internet security applications, ad-blocking applications or plugins used by Firefox.

      Those buttons appear for me.

First of all try clearing the cache and delete Amazon cookies. This can sometimes resolve rendering problems.

If that does not help, the next option is to check to see if an add-on is causing the problem try running Firefox in safe mode, for details of how to do that see Firefox Safe Mode, in the dialog that appears select “Continue in Safe Mode”, then browse to Amazon. If the buttons then appear it indicates a problem with an add-on, if that is the case see troubleshooting extensions and themes

There are various possible causes, for example an add-on or plugin. For some troubleshooting options see Firefox hangs at exit (Mozilla KB) and Firefox hangs at exit (MozillaZine KB).

    • in reply to: Firefox 3.6 Release Candidate #1205572

Firefox 3.6 is scheduled for release on Thursday 21st January, 9am PST

    • in reply to: Firefox 3.6 Release Candidate #1205224

You can choose a custom install and install it in a different folder, but if you want to have 2 totally separate versions you will need to create a new profile for Firefox 3.6 as well.

Firefox stores user data in a profile, and by default it will use the same profile even if you install 3.6 in a different folder. If you want to try doing that, here are a couple of knowledge base article that can help:
Creating a new Firefox profile on Windows – MozillaZine Knowledge Base
Shortcut to a specific profile – MozillaZine Knowledge Base

As Firefox 3.6 is likely to be released within a couple of weeks, you may want to wait for the release if you have never created or used multiple profiles before.

Update: Mozilla has just released a second release candidate (same link as the first post). It is currently being pushed out to the beta testers and it fixes one bug found in the first release candidate.

A release date for Firefox 3.6 has not been announced yet, but at a recent meeting possible dates of January 19th or 26th were discussed. The bug that caused the second release candidate to be made may mean the first of those dates is no longer an option, but I expect Firefox 3.6 will be released this month.

    • in reply to: HTML – Images show in IE, not in FF #1204991

It has always worked for me fine in IE, why the difference with FF?

I just noticed an error, to be fully compliant it should be file:///C:/ rather than file://C:/

When it comes to HTML Firefox is stricter than IE on what it allows.

    • in reply to: HTML – Images show in IE, not in FF #1204982

So what did you do to it?

I changed how the files were referenced, from

      Code:
      [img]C:UsersNathanDesktopSmilies2cents.gif[/img]

      to

      Code:
      [img]file://C:/Users/Nathan/Desktop/Smilies/2cents.gif[/img]

Try this version, I’m no expert on HTML but I think it should work
