I am pretty sure it is the AVG Anti-Spam component.

      The AI mgr had :
      Outlook Connector Checked
      AVG Exchange Ext checked
      Exch Prop pages checked

I unchecked AVG and the Exchange Ext

Went into AVG and into their Anti-Spam component and it specifically says it marks the headers as spam and moves to the Outlook Junk Mail folder

      I uninstalled AVG’s anti-spam component

Thanks for the help – I am pretty sure AVG was the culprit – I won’t know for sure until Monday AM – leaving for a trip and will be gone all week end.

I will update this entry Monday when I see what happened, but at this time – I am confident it was AVG. Earlier I had to disable another component of AVG because it was taking over my system – not sure AVG is worth the money.

      Thanks again

This is a reply to two questions

My copy of AVG is not their Security Suite – not sure what it is called.

The mail goes into inbox and then Outlook transfers the message to the “Junk E Mail folder”, the header is marked “[SPAM]” – nothing else is changed. I manually have to go into the Junk E Mail Folder and individually mark each message as “Not Junk” – then Outlook transfers each individual message back to the inbox, leaving the “[SPAM]” marking.

If for some reason I have Outlook on the screen, I can see the messages go into the inbox and then be transferred to the Junk E Mail folder. I was surprised the first time I saw this occur.

I have two smtp (POP mail) accounts – one with gmail and one with msn. Outlook provides separate inboxes and Junk E Mail boxes for each. Most of my email comes thru the gmail account. That is one reason this is so annoying because gmail has an excellent set of filters itself. if a message makes it thru the gmail filters, it certainly isn’t spam.

I will admit that most of my email is stuff that a business would consider SPAM – jokes, video clips, etc.

My system is a home system, I run AVG and Zonealarm. The blocked Sender List has two entries in it – I’m not sure how they got there – both are porn sites off the net (An old coot like me wouldn’t go to porn sites!!!).

This morning every email (8) was marked as Spam. The 4 senders all were in my contacts, and were among the Safe Senders list that I built from my contacts. I exported and imported my contacts into the safe sender list.

I do remember that prior to rebuilding my system, I am positive I had not put all of the fixes on Outlook. As I remember, I applied and Outlook SP-3 as part of my rebuild process.

      Tom,
      What does DEVICE MANAGER say?

Device manager shows two USB hubs – one shows everything as USB2 and the other simply shows USB hubs

    • in reply to: difference between pita and tortilla? #1149156

Corn tortillas are made with a type of specially treated corn flour called masa harina. To make masa harina, whole corn kernels are boiled with an alkali until the hulls loosen and float to the top. The kernels are then drained, crushed, and dried. The resulting flour is mixed with water and kneaded into a pliable dough in order to make tortillas. You can find dry masa harina at many supermarkets. At specialty stores and Mexican grocers, you may even find fresh masa, which needs to be used right away.

I have no idea how Pita bread is made

After trying every NTSF utility I could find, all to no avail, I bit the bullet and did a complete format on c:.

That fixed the missing approx 100GB’s, everything adds up now.

In the process now of reinstalling everything on C:

    • in reply to: Missing data space (XP sp3) #1146145

with the combination of xcopy switches and a tool called “who Lock Me” I am able to copy everything exce[t one file (system volume information).

I have been working with two friends to track the missing space down. At this point we are convinced that the NTFS space allocation is messed up and are working with a NTFS utility to audit all of the space on the c drive. So far the audit has been working for 18 hours – not sure when it will finish.

If this does not work, the next step is to reformat C: and start from Scratch

Thanks, I will use the uninstall – install approach and see what works. OBTW, I contacted Adobe about Adobe Reader 9, because I didn’t seem to get an option about where to put it – their tech support responded that they were “Hardwired” to C:Program Files – evidently driver problems

      Thanks Bob

I went over to a friends and checked their XP – I am positive that somehow I killed the service “Help and Support”.

I have printed the info you pointed me to and will work my way thru it. I am sure I need to recreate the “Help and Support” Service.

      Thanks again

I ran services.msc and have been thru each and every service listed in both the Extended and Standard Services – there is nothing named Help Support and Service in either panel. I read each of the descriptions and there was nothing mentioned about help services in any of the descriptions.

It seems to me that somehow that service has been deleted, but I have no idea how that happened.

Any ideas about how to reconstruct would be appreciated.

I expanded all three of the files
      HELPCTR.EX_ HELPHOST.EX_ and HELPSVC.EX_

I expanded the second and third file because I continue to get the unable to find helpctr.exe message, at one point in the process – I got a message saying to start the Help and Support Service. One of my reference books says to go into ctl panel – admin tools and double click on the Help and Support process to restart the service.
I cannot find any Help and Support Service anywhere in ctl panel – admin tools.

Is there a command line option to restart the Help and Support Service?

I ran scannow and it found the D:i386 folder – after quiet a while it competed with no messages. I guess it ran successfully – at least no messages.

I am trying to rebuild helpctr.exe. I found HELPCTR.EX_ in the i386 folder.

I have not been able to find out how to expand the EX_ file – anyone know how to decompress it?
