got the following from Folder – lock – so I assume it is their problem rather than a windows problem

Sir “windvrNT.sys” is related to Folder Lock only.

Please let me know if I can do anything for you,

      Have a great day!

Joe – I was able to read the event recorder – it specified a “Bug Check” – I am assuming this means a program exception

Finally got a reply from Folder Lock people –

“Load your computer in Safe Mode or in Dos Mode (this can be done by loading your computer with the help of a bootable disk, floppy or a bootable CD) and
then delete the file called ‘windrvNT.sys’ from your Windows system folder, which is WindowsSystem or WindowsSystem32.

Once you’ve deleted this file, boot the computer normally and you can use the computer without any problem with all your files recovered.”

Two questions -how do I boot to “Safe Mode” and – will win2k reconstruct the file I delete??

I uninstalled Folder Lock – Same failure as before – I dug out old Dell stand alone diagnostics.

Ran approx 3 hours of dianostics – biggest part of time was diagnostics on C:
Ran all except telecom / cable modem diags. Not a single error.

Only thing left is the Microsoft Backup package. It ran last month successfully – not now fails consistently – only thing peculiar is timing is not consistent to failure point – I would have expected program to fail at the same point.

Going to wait thru next round of Microsoft updates and see if that changes anything

      new solution did not work.

Does anyone know how to force win2k to record a system interruption event and then look at the foot prints. I need to find out if this is a hardware or a software problem and the only way I know to do that is to look at what interrupt caused the reboot.

system backup is component of win2k
There is a procedure to use with Folder Lock to allow backups.

Trying another solution in a few minutes

Win2000 with all fixes I know about applied. Dell dimension xp – 524mb storage – 80gig hard drive – printer – scanner – 80 gig USB2 attached hard drive – scanner, nothing out of ordinary. No hardware changes for over a year.
Using supplied system backup Start-Programs-Accessories-System tools-backup.
Been running backup monthly – archive to external usb2 hard drive after backup completed – with no problems for 2 years.

Only new software is Folder Lock – security package at folder level.

No errors flash that I can see, first indication of problem is “No Synch” message to screen, followed by reboot.

when I hit the box between the minus and the x (full screen – little window icon) the screen fills the area with a scroll bar on right hand side and the little screen icon between the _ and the x becomes a double screen box. Closing saving etc has no effect.

Nope didn’t work – still get 2/3 size screen

Wish I know what I did to start this fiasco

I should have tested more thouroughly before I posted –

I have to hit both the middle and the right buttons simultaneously for this to occur

Sorry about not being more explicit.
