Sorry, I forget about older versions sometimes, here is the KB for 2000: Word 2000 Templates

This is also a very good webpage on creating and sharing Word templates: Payne Consulting, as well as Word MVP Site

Hi Chuck… the attachment is not viewable (Woody’s does not accept .oft attachments). I suggest that you do not save the attachment as an .oft but, instead, create another form. You can do this by choosing Tools, Design a Form. Select the Message form from the Standard Forms Library. Edit the form as previously mentioned… add the categories field to the bottom-right corner of the form then resize the message box as required. After you have completed the form, select the first icon on the 3rd toolbar, Publish Form. It will prompt you to save the form in an Outlook library – choose Personal Forms Library and name the form accordingly. It will most likely prompt you to ‘Save Form Definition…’, choose YES to this prompt.

If you want to use the form, choose the New drop-down (from File menu or icon) and then select Choose Form. From there, select the Personal Forms Library from the drop-down and select the form you created. This is where the VBA will come in handy and do all this work for you in the simple click of an icon… here’s the MSDN site on Outlook forms (hope it helps more)… MSDN Outlook Forms

With regard to the header/footer, you most likely added a horizontal line to the paragraph… simply remove the line (Border icon on Formatting toolbar or Format, Borders and Shading). If you want the line and a space afterwards, try using the Space After feature under Format Paragraph… you can define any space you want after the existing paragraph without using hard returns.

I think you may want to do a little reading/research before you dive into templates. Here is a KB article on Word’s templates locations. In order for a person to see a template in the Templates and Add-ins folder permanently, they must know to save it under the Startup folder of Word. This can be a difficult task to relay to anyone who is unaware of their Windows profiles and how Word works with templates.

    • By any chance, was the jpeg created using Corel? Have you tested other jpgegs… for instance find any picture and save as jpg, send to yourself and see if you receive the same result. I’m thinking that either the picture was created using a Corel product or enhanced using a Corel product… hope this helps….

Hi Chuck… Looks like you chose the Form root. When in the design mode of the message form (select the message form when going into design), select the Categories field and drag it to the bottom-right corner of the message form. It will, most likely attach to the right-side of the message box. While both the label and text box are selected, move it down to the bottom of the window. Then, resize the message box both horizontally and vertically to fit above the categories box.

Choosing the form root is OK, but realize that you need to find a way to replace the default message form with this new one… I have never attempted this but, instead, placed an icon from VBA to invoke the new form that I have created….

Hope this helped a bit… trish

    • in reply to: Message Categories (MSO 2003) #994707

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to perform this unless you use VBA (either in the E-Mail form) or creating a Categories button on the toolbar. You may want to play with the Form feature, but to attach it to the New E-Mail button you will probably need to write some VBA… you may want to read up on creating Forms… Creating Forms in Outlook

      Hope this helped… trish

Log on to the different user and ensure the .pst file is closed from the Folder List. After doing so, ensure to use File, Exit (or File Exit and Log Off in older versions), not the x in the top right corner (this is a common error people make with Outlook, whenever any settings to the profile have been changed, you need to choose File, Exit). Log onto yourself again and see if the .pst will now open… good luck… trish

    • in reply to: Views – Grouping (Outlook 2003) #912787

Outlook works with Views for each folder. Messages can be displayed with different views, the default being Messages (there is also Messages with AutoPreview, Last 7 Days, Sent To (used for Outbox folder). Each view can be modified to your needs – i.e., if you do not want the Messages view (which is the default for Inbox, Drafts, and new folders created) to include the Show in Groups, edit the view (View, Arrange By, Current View, Define Views), select the Messages view and choose Modify. In the Customize View dialog, click on Other Settings. Uncheck the “Show Items in Groups” option. Select OK, OK, and finally Apply View. Any view that uses the Messages view should not show the groups any longer. Hope this cleared things up a bit without using VB! Cheers… trish

    • in reply to: Address Book ‘Contacts’ shuts down Outlook (?) #912741

I’m thinking that something has occurred to her set-up. Try right-clicking on the Outlook shortcut on the Desktop and choosing Properties. Depending on what version you are working on, you need to access the Outlook Address Book settings. Remove the Outlook Address Book, then add it back in. Start Outlook and open the Address Book… if you get the same error message, it could be that the PST has become corrupt – if she is not working on an exchange server – the mailbox is contained in a PST. You may want to run the scanpst.exe http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?…kb;en-us;287497%5B/url%5D to fix the problem – if the PST has become oversized, there is also a utility to fix this problem – it can be found at the end of the article above.
