I didn’t explain this very well, my apologies.

My laptops are not controlled by any organization or at least shouldn’t be. I did receive them from the company I worked for but rebuilt them after.

I’ve attached a snapshot of the setting, which, as I said, looks like it’s set to “on”.

And if for some reason these laptops are assigned to an organization, how do I change that?

      Thanks,
      Tim

      Susan,

You suggested turning off “Get the latest updates…”, but on both of my laptops the line is dimmed out and says, “This setting isn’t available due to your organizations policy”. It looks like it is toggled on. I am normally logged in as a non-admin user.

The same thing happens though when I log in as the administrator.

Is there a registry entry I need to tweak?

I thought I’d look through oldergeeks.com and found a couple of “free” utilities for recovering files/partitions and two sounded promising. Have either of you used these?

Puran File Recovery Portable 64bit 1.2
      TestDisk v7.2

Just thought I’d ask before I go about testing.

      Kind regards,
      Tim

Thank you for your reply Paul.

I downloaded and ran the MiniTool Partition Wizard Free and have attached a snapshot as you requested. Disk 3 is the culprit.

I chose the Partition Recovery tab and it warns me it cannot recover searched partitions (Capture2) and I selected Next. Chose disk 3 and scanned the full disk. Chose Quick scan. It found the missing “Bitlocker” partition. See Capture3.

It finishes on the “Unlock Advanced Features” screen.

Is paying them my only option for recovery?

      Kind regards,
      Tim

      Thank-you for this article!
I wanted to use Ubuntu on an older Lenovo Twist because it’s performance using Windows 10 has degraded over time.
I set up a bootable USB stick and it worked great on a newer laptop but when I tried it on the Twist it fails to load a Wi-Fi driver. After doing some searching around it seems like I could get it to work but it doesn’t look like its worth the effort.
It was a great learning experience though and maybe when I have some more time I will dual-boot Ubuntu on the Twist and try to get the Wi-Fi working.
