Above was a quote from that site. I did not mean to imply that it was or was not a political decision to cancel.

Obviously politics had something to do with it. Politics always has something to do with it. The cancellation had nothing to do with Texas being conservative though, it had to do with money and religious concerns. The church was concerned that this would give more ammo to the ‘no god’ argument.

It’s a bitter sweet moment for Texas physicists, who 15 years ago were working on the Superconducting Super Collider project, a $4 billion effort near Waxahatchie that would have created a particle accelerator three times larger than the LHC.
After spending $2 billion on the effort, Congress pulled the plug in 1993, handing off future leadership in a vital scientific field to the CERN laboratory near Geneva. It resulted in an exodus of American scientists to Europe to work on the hottest physics project on Earth. Former President Bill Clinton, who signed the legislation killing the project, later admitted he thought the cancellation was a mistake.
Although Americans are contributing to the LHC experiment, it will not have the impact on U.S. scientific development or the economic and academic benefits for Texas that would have come with the Supercollider.
We wish the venture scientific success, and no black holes, but we can’t help regretting that it didn’t happen in Texas.

and i think it is good to see our government stop spending money when halfway through large projects, rather than stick with a decision.

ok, seriously? This is the most bizzare rant I have read in a while. Starting at the beginning of all this, who asked for faster computers? Nobody? Really? The gamers and the porn industry asked for all this. 3D technology? Same thing. People who enjoy themselves are constantly looking for better, faster ways to enjoy themselves. This has always been the case. This, and wars, drive technology. Better games require better graphics, but I do not want to have to wait for those graphics to be loaded, so we need better speed.

Your printer? You might want to do the math on the printer versus ink catridges again. I think you will find you are either buying the wrong ink or your are bad at math. In the end, if your current printer does what you need then there is no reason to buy a new one to “stay abreast of printer technology!” unless you want to. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

      12. How many channels on a VHF TV dial?

seriously? who has a dial? I think this part of the quiz is a bit dated.

I had the same problem with my mother. I asked her to stop and explained how she could check them out, did not work. So, for a short while, everytime she sent me one I did the snopes for her and replied with the link. If it was not on snopes I replied with a statement that these e-mails were just a waste of effort and that some teenager was laughing their buttocks off that their joke was going so far. I think the mention that a teenager got the better of her really made her mad (at the teenager, not me) and she quickly got the idea.

From what I can find you can’t do this in a batch file without a third party program. Can you use a “thumb” drive and have the program on the drive. That way you don’t have to install anything just run from the drive.

      Joe

I just got what you meant, little slow today, as long as the 3rd party program is not installed, but run locally, this could work. I will look into this in more depth. Thanks!

If you can not use a thumb drive, how do you expect to get a copy of this script onto each machine?

Also you need to be able to reset each machine back to what it was before your script messed with it, as a reboot would NOT reset it back.

It is things like this, that rules have had to be put in place, so the machines are NOT to be changed.

I am always allowed to copy over files, as needed to run our classes, but actually installing a new program is sometimes not allowed. These are training classes and the customers understand that I will be copying over these files and deleting them when I am finished.

The script mentioned above helped dramatically after some modifications, but it does not allow a specific display setting to be put in place, rather it assumes that everyone has the same setting so by hitting the right or left button will change the setting to the same new display. So, still looking for a way to be specific on wanting 1024X768. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.

I cannot use a thumb drive, I would need one for each workstation (up to 24 students) and, of course, money is the hot topic this year. Can’t spend a dime without upper management clearing it. Which I am sure is costing us a fortune.

    • in reply to: Regifting Math Puzzle ??? #1159461

There are a limited number of possible answers on the board. If you said 83, then 83-8-3=72. 99-9-9=81. Both of these answers and the rest all have the same answer on the board. The possible answers are :SPOILER: 81,72,63,54,45,36,27,18,9

The logic is that since we are starting with a 2 digit number, subtracting the 1 spot number brings you to the rounded to 10 spot and then subtracting the 10 spot number brings you down to the 1 spot. I know, lousy explaination, but there you go.

I checked with my father who is a mechanical engineer. His answers are as follows:

      1. When the balls hit the ground both will have zero velocity.

      2. Depends on the state of the moon and its gravitational pull. .

      3. The diver needs to decelerate not accelerate to avoid hitting the bottom. Typically the co-efficient of friction between the diver and the water is such that the constants of deceleration are not constant. The divers body is subjected to changing dynamic forces which affect the body’s shape thus changing the physics as the body travels through the water. That being said the diver will still have a head ache, particularly if the diver comes to rest at the bottom of the pool and stays there. Nitrogen can cause the bends, but then everything is in a straight line so the bends do not apply.

      4. Just after the Tortoise passes the Hare.

      Hope this helps!

mbaron is correct, if both are open while making the change it is taken care of right away. The naming will also work, but will take a bit of effort to setup.

    • in reply to: Changing link in Destination Workbook (2007) #1122361

It sounds to me like your formulas are using specific locations. i.e. A$6$ This means that if you insert a row before row 6 everything will move down one and your calculation will be pointing at the wrong cell. Given the address I provided it would still be pointing at A6, but the value would now be the one that used to be in A5. Now, without testing I cannot give correct information on how to handle this, but I thought that this might get us started in the right direction. Please let me know if I am even close and then I will start trying to find an answer to the issue.
