    • in reply to: a style limit in Word? #1179108

The first option worked (shift plus pull-down)

The second option only worked if I pull down to “show all styles”

      Which one worked?

      Hans,

      Once again your advice worked!

Any idea why they make it like that?

      Thanks,

      Tom

According to Operating parameter limitations and specifications in Word, the maximum number of styles in a Word document or template is 10,000, so it seems unlikely that you’re even near the limit.

Try holding down Shift while clicking the Styles dropdown on the Formatting toolbar.

Or, in the Styles and Formatting task pane, click the dropdown at the bottom, select Custom… and make sure that the styles you need are ticked.

      Dave,

Yes, I own it…It’s a bunch of my pay stubs that are each protected with my SSN#.

I’d like to unprotect them and merge then into one PDF for easier access…

      Joe,

Thanks, I’ll give it a try.

    • in reply to: hyperlinks to other files (Word 2003 SP3) #1126856

That’s why I’m wondering if it is seeing a longer pathname as an URL and going to the browser (?)

I want it to default to assuming that the linked files are in the same folder as the referring Word document regardless of the pathname in front of the filename.

That’s the way that I think it would be most useful for potential users who may access it on a “D” drive or on a “T” drive, or whatever…

      Hans,

Thanks for the speedy reply. I will see macropods post.

Regarding Q1, when I to to the tools, folder options in explorer, it tells me that PDF files are associated with Adobe 7.0, yet the link opens on my browser PDF reader. Might this be because it sees it as a URL ?

      Leif,

      Thanks, I’ll try it…

Ultimately I may just have to try booting to that drive…

Fortunately the files involved are relatively few and non-critical…

      Steve,

That has been my workaround and it works fine…

      Thanks,

I believe I implemented the conditional formatting correctly.
Something funny happens in the last row.
Hit the F9 key a few times to “toss the coin” and sooner or later the last row or rows will be incorrectly highlighted.

    • in reply to: identify streaks (Excel 2003 (SP3)) #1116769

      Gotcha!

      I’ll have to implement that.

      Thanks again.

    • in reply to: identify streaks (Excel 2003 (SP3)) #1116767

Much obliged. It does just what I need.
I must ask, though, what are the “last row”, “first row” things in columns C & D ?
I just used the formulae in column B, as I didn’t understand the purpose of C & D.

      Thanks again!

    • in reply to: get a row number (Excel 2003 SP3) #1116639

      That’s pretty cool!

      Thanks again, Hans.

    • in reply to: get a row number (Excel 2003 SP3) #1116632

      Hans,

      It did the trick.

      Thanks once again!

BTW, I didn’t know that you could refer to a column as “C:C”… I learned two things!

    • in reply to: unable to edit cell comment (Excel 2003 SP3) #1111216

Mysteriously, the problem seems to have fixed itself !

Needless to say I am somewhat bemused.

I will advise if it recurs…

      Thanks much to all !
