      Patty,

Our friend Google gave a hit for this site, among many others. It says it is an online calculator for sample size, etc.

FWIW, I used “Sample Size” +95% for the search on Google.

    • in reply to: Using Calender Control (Access 2000) #581361

Check out the Solutions database that ships with Access. There is a form/report set that does what you want (almost). But it uses the Calendar control once, and a couple of text boxes for the beginning data and ending date.

In the Access 97 version of Solutions, the form and report are available under “Using queries with forms and reports,” then “Use a parameterized query in an event procedure.”

    • in reply to: crosstab query vs. subqueries (2000) #580556

      David,

In your query’s design view, double-click the join line between the ORDERS table and the ITEMS table. Then, select either 2 or 3 and click OK. The idea is to have the arrow point from the ITEMS table to the ORDERS table. Run the query. You should see each itemCategory now (if it’s in the output section of the query grid).

      Geoff,

Francois is pointing you in the right direction. The Snapshot Viewer will work – if your users don’t need to edit anything. Microsoft’s Snapshot Viewer makes a read-only, printable version of your report. When you use the viewer, you can zoom the file and print it. That’s about it.

Both you and your users need to install the Snapshot Viewer.

The Snapshot Viewer is available here. Though advertised for Access 2000, this viewer also works for Access 97.

      Mike,

You’re absolutely right! (And I feel absolutely foolish.) blush blush blush

(Well, maybe others can be rofl over this.)

      My apologies.

    • in reply to: Unbound ComboBox Appears to be Bound (Accesss 97) #573538

      Mike,

Could you check the Record Source and the Control Source of the combo box Properties in Design View?

If it is an unbound combo box, the Record Source should be blank, and the Control Source should have some kind of SQL statement.

It’s probably best to start there for now.

From the query in Desgin View, add the Date field again. This time, use the Row Heading option in the Crosstab cell. It should show up in the query results.

    • in reply to: Back in Access (Access 97) #573169

Access 97 does indeed have a Nz() function.

    • in reply to: Path Length Restrictions (Access 97) #571418

I seem to recall Access 97 having a problem with spaces in the long file names. Could that be going on here?

Even if not, Rupert’s got a great idea.

    • in reply to: Access Conversion (2000-back to 97) #571351

As long as she’s not using special features in Access 2000 (like international languages, or queries as sub forms), she should be able to convert the Acc 2000 db back to Acc 97 fairly easily.

I’m not sure what would happen if she uses a lot of ADO code in the Acc 2000 db. Acc 97 can handle some of it, but might choke on it, too. I’ll let someone who has more experience with ADO VBA answer that.

    • in reply to: Snapshot (A2k) #568885

Microsoft came up with the snapshot format because some of the report formatting gets lost when you convert to an rtf document, as well as after transfers to Excel/Word format.

As for why they didn’t include an option for a pdf format, I think it has to do with licensing. (Not totally sure.) Since Microsoft and Adobe are competitors, it’s not likely we’ll see a lot of collaboration between the two.

    • in reply to: Disappearing/Invisible Database (2k sr1/sr1a) #568882

      Brooke,

I notice that the Access window is opened at the Maximize setting. Could you try clicking on the “Restore” button? You might be able to see a horizontal scroll bar, and find the database window shrug.

The only other suggestion is to try hitting the F11 key (which should display the Database Window if it somehow got hidden).

      Good Luck!

    • in reply to: how to work with a non-normalized database? (A97 SR2) #558290

I would think the simplest way to “flatten” the data, other than using a steamroller, would be to use a crosstab query. But it depends on how your customers (internal, external) want it.

Still, when you chat with the SAS programmers, you might want to find out how they want the data – if they ever need to get it from you.

      Good luck!

      Don,

You’re very kind. And very welcome.

More credit needs to go to the hosts/hostesses of this great forum. They keep a lot of us from hairout.
