Thank you. I will try that. I have used this technique in the past but not in the context of buttons.

The problem accessing the VB code window has reoccurred. I tried uninstalling software that had been installed recently.

When I uninstalled Directory Opus, a file manager, and rebooted, the VB editor was once again accessible.

I will keep the board updated if the problem occurs agains.

I just checked with our computer service people and they have not done anything to my computer.

      Must be magic! Huh?

I took a couple of vacation days. Now that I am back I can get into the VB editor. I had emailed our computer service group the messages in this thread.
Maybe they made some changes while I was gone. I will check with them and see if they did anything.

I looked at your idea of Tools/Macro/Security. I went to Tools/Macro, but do not have the option Security. I also looked under Tools/Security, but could not find anything to help.

Then I tried opening the VB editor and it opened. I will post if the Computer Service Group did anything to correct the situation.

      Thank you for your input.

Thank you very much for your input Hans.
I will check with our IT people again with this information and will post the results back to the message board.

On my machine I can access the Visual Basic editor in the Office 97 products, but not any of the Office XP products.

I have been using both Office versions for quite some time now on the same machine without any problems.

I logged on to my boss’s machine who only has Office 97 and could not access the Visual Basic editor (code window).

Yes, I have administrator rights on this PC.

    • in reply to: Can not view code (A 2002) #1016158

I have had IT reinstall Access XP.

I still can not get to the code window.

When we first installed access yesterday afternoon, logged on under the technician’s ID, we created a new database and were able to access the code window.

Now, this morning, under my logon, I can not access the code window in any database, new and empty, or previously written.

      Suggestions?

Yes, it also happens in a new database. I will try reinstalling Access 2002. Thanks.

Thank you Hans. Your help is appreciated. I will look into the system tables. I forgot about them.

    • in reply to: Schema Name? (A97 & Axp) #1008780

No, I am not trying to work with XML data. I am reading a book on SQL and they refer to the property Schema.
Evidently DB2, Oracle, MySQL, & SQL server have a Schema property.
So, I thought that Access probably had a Schema property also.

Schema refers to the collection of objects in a database.

For example the following query will list all the tables in a SQL database with a Schema name of ‘SMEAGOL’.

      select table_name
      from information_schema.tables
      where table_schema = ‘SMEAGOL’

    • in reply to: Button to Replicate Over Multiple Network Drives ( #1006088

I need it on three network drives as the drives are located in different cities and the response time over the networks is quite slow.

I was planning on using just an Access backend, but since all the editors have moved to my site I have decided not to use a backend. The editors will use Access XP to edit the data and the user versions data will be updated using a button to copy the updated tables to the Access 97 and XP user copies of the database. “DoCmd.TransferDatabase acExport…”

I thought about SQL server but since there will not be many records SQL Server is overkill. I would like to get some experience using SQL Server, perhaps in the future.

      Thank you for your input.

    • in reply to: Button to Replicate Over Multiple Network Drives ( #1005679

      Thank you for your input.

I am abandoning replication in light of new events. The other editors are physically moving to my plant site so that keeping records synchronized is not the issue that it was. I am going to be using “DoCmd.TransferDatabase acExport” so that I copy the updated tables to the Public User’s six versions of the database, three network drives and two versions (97 & XP). I have buttons that transfer just the tables that were updated.

Your comments on replication are very interesting and I will bookmark this thread for future use.

    • in reply to: Button to Replicate Over Multiple Network Drives ( #1005235

This is my first replication project. I chose trying replication for the following reasons. The users are spread over three plant locations and the response time connecting to a drive that is located at a different plant location is slow.

My plan is to have frontends for A97 and XP, (user and editor versions). The backend is A97 with just tables in it. I would like to have a frontend for the editors, 3 of them, which would allow them to click a button to update the master replica and the other replica (replicas, master, Rep1 & Rep2). The bulk of users would just search for data on forms in a User frontend (A97 or XP).

Should I open the backend and then run the replication? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you for your input.
