AskWoody LoungerAlan,
There could be two reasons why you do not see the sound icons.
(1) The sound icons have been dragged off the slide area, or they are behind another object.
(2) The sounds may have been added to each slide using Slideshow menu > Slide Transition > Sound

Convert presentations to VHS or DVD video

AskWoody Loungerhyamk,
PowerPoint is notoriously bad at keeping everything in sync. Transferring it to a CD-ROM only makes things worse. In general the less you can give powerpoint to do the better. Try lowering the quality of the sound track (e.g. from stereo to mono), this would make the file half the size. That’s less data to transfer from a CD to the processor.
Things to look out for…..video files are never embedded, they are only ever linked. Sound files (wav only) can be set to be embedded. For more help on this see
Sounds/Movies don’t play, images disappear or links break when I move or email a presentation
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm%5B/url%5DThe font problem…try to use fonts that are fairly common. e.g. Arial (boring but safe !).
For more info on the fonts issue (including embedding fonts) and more helpful info on sharing powerpoint files see

jrklein,
1) You cannot embed a movie in powerpoint. Movies are always linked.
However the general consensus / workaround is to have the movie clip file in the same directory as your .ppt *BEFORE* you Insert > Movies > From file.
Then when powerpoint comes to play the movie clip (and perhaps it’s not in the same directory or drive letter)…it looks to the current/local directory. And fingers crossed…it finds your clip. For more reading on this see
Links break when I move presentation (and at other times)
http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00155.htm%5B/url%5D2) The “black photo” icon from your screengrab…appears to me to be the 1st frame of the video clip. If you want something else….either put a picture over the video….the picture will disappear when the clip starts playing….or for a professional touch…save one frame of the video as a bitmap (something nice)…and have that as the picture.
3) To edit the video clip. you will need something like Premiere (expensive…but does the job). Or search for a freeware editor on google.
One last tip…..don’t forget to copy the video clip to the CD as well as any other files you need. Take two copies…test test test!
Cheers

sigismondo,
This page — http://www.digiwis.com/fr_asi.htm%5B/url%5D
Shows various China maps (see ‘china extended’ half way down the page).
The files are in .eps format. This can be taken into something like Corel Draw or Illustrator, and exported as WMF format. Powerpoint can insert WMF files. It can also ungroup them….then you can color them.Cheers
