Thanks to all for trying. I’m now about to try the dongle that’s just arrived!

In device manager go to view and show hidden devices. See if your wireless card shows up greyed out. If so, right-click uninstall and reboot. With luck it will reinstall.

Sorry, replying to both got confused.

I downloaded the driver but still can’t connect wirelessly.

There are quite a few hidden devices under “network adapters” but non that mention “wireless”, there’s Microsoft ISATAP Adapter (2 of them), MS kernel debug Network dapter, RAS Async Adapter, and 8 WAN Miniport with brackets after as follows (IKEv2), (IP), (IPv6), L2TP), (Network Monitor), (PPPOE), (PPTP), (SSTP)

Airplane mode has been off all the time.

Thank you. Windows updates have been installing themselves almost daily since I have been working on this, ( and I have also searched for them, ) probably because my daughter did a recovery, and I have been into the HP diagnostics and updated all the drivers they offer. I have ordered a WiFi dongle which should arrive tomorrow and hopefully solve the problem, but many thanks for all the help everyone.

    • in reply to: HP Pavilion notebook lost WiFi #2170120

I get “We couldn’t find wireless devices on this PC” and there’s no Bluetooth or unknown devices showing.

    • in reply to: HP Pavilion notebook lost WiFi #2170093

It’s a Pavilion 11 x 360 PC and the only button is the one for airplane mode off or on, which is currently on. Someone suggested that the WiFi card has died which I suppose is possible? Meaning she will have to buy a WiFi dongle.

    • in reply to: Unable to change my photo in my profile #1569383

OK well, I did prefer reading my mail in WLM so I will try again. Thank you very much!

    • in reply to: Unable to change my photo in my profile #1569312

I notice that article is several years old and the last notice I had from Windows Live Mail was that Outlook.com would begin upgrading from 30/06/16 and would no longer be able to be used in Windows Live mail. https://blogs.office.com/2016/05/05/using-windows-live-mail-2012-with-outlook-com-time-to-update-your-email-application/ (I currently have it set up to use POP but this is why I left WLM.)

    • in reply to: Why has Google Chrome suddenly started freezing? #1562884

I’ve looked at the link and followed the advice. So far there are no anomalies/conflicts found. The Chrome clean up tool just reset all my Chrome settings to default but I have done that before with no improvement. I’ve used the file checker and tested the RAM and everything is fine. I have scanned with Malwarebytes and I’m clean but I will make another user profile and see if that works, then I’ll try adwcleaner.

    • in reply to: Why has Google Chrome suddenly started freezing? #1562681

Ah ha…I just checked and I’m not on the 64 bit version although I do have W7 64 bit installed on my PC. It may be worth my while to download the 64 bit version of Chrome and see if it’s any better?

I just noticed that the 64 bit version is still beta…I think I’ wait!

    • in reply to: Why has Google Chrome suddenly started freezing? #1562564

Well, so far at least, I have had no problems with either Firefox or Opera crashing or freezing so, for now, I’m leaving Chrome alone!:)

    • in reply to: Why has Google Chrome suddenly started freezing? #1562517

Well I tried everything, even a complete reset (and I’ve already tried removing it and reinstalling) but I’m still getting the “snap” notification showing that the page has crashed. Reloading it works usually but then it will freeze and nothing I do unfreezes it. As this is really inconvenient when I’m in the middle of doing something, I’m giving up and I’m using Opera from now on. Thanks for all your help!

    • in reply to: Why has Google Chrome suddenly started freezing? #1562512

Thank you. I have tried a few suggested things but I’ll certainly have a look at this and see if it helps…..Oops, just clicked this link and I get “Page not found” error! I Googled the phrase and it’s taken me to the page so I’ll give it a go!
