I welcome coverage of apple thongs. I suspect many readers, like me, use windows, Mac and Linux interchangeably and equally. Come to think of it, articles on interchanging data would be good to read.

Outlook warned me the email on this topic contained ActiveX controls which it would not run for security reasons or ‘because I had blocked the publisher’. Did that happen for anyone else?
I replied to the email to report this and got the response
      > Thanks for your email and feedback. I’m sorry you are having this trouble.
      > I have never heard of anyone having this trouble before.
which is neither helpful nor informative.
I wonder why there would be ActiveX controls in an email?
      can anyone shed any light?

“pcdecrapifier” is a useful tool to run on a new machine – it will strip out all those trial applications and OEM specials. It worked for me on a new netbook.

      > Adobe released critical patches for its Flash Player …
Maybe I’m alone, but Firefox will not install Flash updates on the 3 machines we have using either the Adobe site in a web browser or by using Firefox’s Add-ons menu and searching for updates from there…once I get past the security questions I get an “update failed” message from the Adobe server.
However, using the links in Secunia’s online vulnerability reporting tool worked fine (secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/online/)

Did you find a solution? This sounds the same as the “On Network, but no Internet” thread.
Is there a new, unidentified, type of malware?

I’ve had the same problem at home for a couple of months with a (wired) XP machine. It shares a printer and folders and they remain accessible from other computers, but after 20 minutes to sometimes 2 hours use this PC’s web browsers say no connection. tried FF and IE. A reboot fixes it for a while. Tech advice from work: “that can’t happen”…. Maybe the lounge has better advice?
