On the View Tab, Show/Hide section, make you haven’t checked Gridlines

    • in reply to: File & Printer Sharing turns off on reboot: Why? #1205633

On Windows 7 Control panel / Network & Sharing Centre the choices offered are: Home, Work or Public. My network is set to Home.

My error, that’s what happens when relying on memory instead of going to look.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is definitely a Home network.

I don’t recall a setting of “Home”, just “Public” or “Private”.

2007: Any shortcuts/vba to convert a large amount of text in a Word document from all caps to initial caps?
      Thanks.

Shift-F3 will toggle between UPPERCASE, lowercase and Sentence case.

…I wonder if there is some subtlety in Win 7 that is affecting this. I don’t recall seeing this”spontaneous switch off” in Vista.

Have you configured your home network as a Private Network, or does Windows think this is a Public Network?

        [*]I created a file.
        [*]I enabled track changes
[*]I mad a couple of changes
[*]I saved the file and closed it
[*]I changed my Username (in Word options)
        [*]I opened the file again
        [*]I accepted all changes
[*]I made some more tracked changes
[*]I saved the file with a new name
[*]I closed the file and set my username back to it’s normal value
[*]I opened Word and used the combine feature to combine all changes from both files into a new file

I just tried this in Word 2007 and it was very easy.

On the review tab, go to the compare section, click the arrow by Compare and select Combine.

In the dialog box that appears, select the two documents (use the Browse… option from the drop down list to find them) and click OK.

    • in reply to: Workstation vs Desktop #1205341

Would you buy a workstation for software development and Office applications (Project, Visio, Excel, Access, etc.)?

This question is impossible to answer.

As I said in my previous post, the term “workstation” is not well defined. Some people call the type of PC that you buy for general office work a workstation, other’s don’t.

    • in reply to: Backup program requirement #1205340

This feature is usually included in enterprise backup solutions, searching in Google the only product I could find with this capability and consumer pricing was Backup4all – which claims

Backup4all is a backup software that offers an unique mode to track file versions. You can selectively restore any previous version of a file directly from the main window.

What are the differences between a workstation and a desktop?
Is it worthwhile to invest in a workstation instead of a desktop?
      Armstrong

The word “workstation” is not well defined, it is typically used to mean a personal computer with very high end graphics and lots of memory, often used for CAD or Video work.

    • in reply to: Are Jumbo packets or frames causing NW problem? #1205337

I have never seen anyone configure a home network to use Jumbo frames. These extra large Ethernet frames can only be routed by some devices, and can lead to problems if you have not designed your entire network to handle them correctly. I suggest you turn these off and see how it affects your problems.

Even if this doesn’t fix anything, I think you should leave them off unless you can demonstrate a measurable performance difference.

I clicked your graphic in Firefox 3.5.7, which resulted in a slightly larger image, I then clicked on this and it zoomed to a full readable size.

    • in reply to: Turn off tracked changes (For Ever) – Word 2003 #1204877

It would be very easy to write a Macro that would automatically accept all tracked changes whenever you open any document. Something like the following in a DocumentOpen event.

      Code:
          With ActiveDocument
              If .Revisions.Count > 0 Then
                  .AcceptAllRevisions
              End If
          End With

I cannot imagine wanting to do this, but I guess it takes all kinds.
