    • Thanks to everyone for your input. I have finally given up on the 4 TB internal drive and have returned it. I have decided to use a 4 TB USB drive. It is a little slower (computer has USB2 only) but it’s fast enough for backup.

    • I read a post on the Dell forum that earlier versions of a driver would not recognize more than 2 TB. The fix was to update the driver. On the Dell site update Intel_Matrix-Storage-Manager_A01_R230053.exe was recommended for my computer. I downloaded and extracted the contents of the file but I have no idea how to install the new driver. Attached is a screen shot showing the extracted files. How do I install the new driver(s)?

Attached are attachments for Disk Management and for the error on the boot-up screen.

    • I just updated the BIOS to the latest (A16) and observed the same results.

    • Thanks for the reply but that doesn’t solve my problem as the disk is already not allocated.

    • I have verified if I access the 2.5 GB file directly (http://www.mydomain.com/zip_test.zip) at my hosting provider then I can successfully download a 2.5 GB file. The correct file size is shown in the progress section on the browser.

I did this as a test. Unfortunately I cannot directly access the backup (ZIP) file at my hosting provider. They possibly use some type of program to dynamically generate the file on the fly. I’ll need to work with my hosting provider on the problem.

Does anyone know if it is a fact that the download will terminate after a transfer of about 1.0 GB if the browser is not aware of the size of the file. Files less than 1.0 GB will completely download even if the browser is not aware of the file size.

    • I downloaded the 2.2 GB file two more times and both times the download completed properly. The previous failure must have been a fluke. I did notice a difference between the downloads of the ISO files from the servers you recommended and the download from my hosting provider and the test on my local server. On the servers you recommended, the browser client knows the size of the file being downloaded and shows progress of ( xx minutes remaining, 0.5 GB of 2.5 GB). On my hosting provider and my test setup the browser client does not know the size of the file being downloaded. It will just display (time remaining unknown, 0.5 GB). I modified my test setup and used a different method for the download and now the 2.5 GB zip file downloads properly (on my local test server) and displays the time remaining.

I’ll run the same test from my hosting provider’s server tomorrow to see how that works. It will take me a quite a while to upload a 2.5 GB file to my hosting provider account as my upload speed is limited to 6.0 Mbps.

    • Thanks for the sources for the large files. Here are the results:

The 1.5 GB file downloaded completely in 11 minutes.

The 2.0 GB file stopped at 651,979 KB. It had been downloading for 7 minutes. I’ll repeat the 2.0 GB file and see if I get the same results.

My original problem can’t be a corrupt source file on the server because I can download it using SFTP and then successfully extract the files. Also, after downloading it using SFTP, I loaded it on my local (Apache) server and got the same results.

Thanks for the offer to download the ZIP file from my server but I can’t because the ZIP file contains some private information.

I had the same problem a while back. Click below to see how I solved it.

    • I experience this problem 100% of the time if I sort by date modified. If I sort by Name (file-name) then the problem is never observed. I have been hoping that eventually MS will correct this bug.

If you have been working on this for a full day I’m sure you have already tried this but I have to ask. If you hold down the key when you launch Quicken (the quicken data file will not open), does the Quicken program open properly?

I an running WIN7 64 bit with all the published updates including the NET 4 updates. I am running Quicken 2010 with all the updates and everything is functioning fine.

The pathname field has been replaced by a sequence of dropdowns that let me select the file or folder to open at each level. That’s convenient… almost as convenient as opening files and folders from the main window… but it prevents me from using the pathname field in the way that I usually want to use it, to copy and paste the pathname of a directory after navigating there. How can I restore that functionality?

I can answer one of your questions. When the sequence of drop-downs is displayed, just click on the yellow folder icon to the left of the first drop-down and the drop-downs will be replaced by the full path name that you can change or copy. You can also right-click and select copy address as text or edit address.

    • in reply to: Which disk is this – DeviceHarddisk2DR2 #1278963

Take a look in diskmgmt.msc and see how the (your) drives are labeled.

As far as I know, in WIN7 on the disk management screen, the drives are always labeled Disk 0, Disk 1, etc but in some utilities, I have seen disk 0 referred to as disk 1 since it is the first drive. Also I am not sure if Harddisk2 if the drive number or the SATA port since it is proceeded by Device. The event ID is 11.

    • in reply to: File system structure on the disk is corrupt #1274960

It seems deleting the old System Restore points solved the problem. Two days ago I turned system protection back on and have verified no Ntfs errors. I have verified I can manually create a system restore point and also that a system restore point is created by the system when an update is applied.

Possibly one or more of the system restore points was corrupt and deleting all of the system restore points fixed the problem.

    • in reply to: File system structure on the disk is corrupt #1274501

I have some additional information on this problem. I noticed that the series of 14 errors occur at exactly midnight each day and the only thing that runs at exactly midnight is the SR (System Restore) task. As a test, I turned off System Protection for all drives and now the Ntfs error is no longer observed so it seems that it is related to System Protection. When I turned off System Protection all previous System Restore files were deleted and at that exact time I observed 9 consecutive Ntfs errors.

In my opinion, turning off System Protection is not a good long term solution, but this may give me a place to look. After a couple more days of observing no errors, I plan to turn System Protection back on to see if the errors return.
