I would suggest the following action:
Create a restore point. Manually delete the offending programme directories and associated Start button entries.
      Run Regedit; Start/Run/Regedit
BACKUP YOUR CURRENT REGISTRY BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING !!!
Now do a Find (for the offending programme name) – delete each entry – press F3 key to find the next item.
When finished, shut down your Pc, wait 15 seconds for memory chip caches to clear, re-boot.
Hopefully this will remove the problem.

    • in reply to: Window sizing and defrag (XP Home and O2K) #654558

As far as I’m aware both Norton defrag’ and Disk Dr. run outside WXp. In other words you get them to run and they programme message comes up like… “do you want to schedule this event when you next re-start?” I always say yes to this. When I re-boot the Disk Doctor runs on either or both, depending upon my previous selection – when I was in WXp, disks. I have already set the programme to auto fix errors. I would try this out – but leave the defrag ’till another time; see if the Win Doctor or Disk Doctor sorts the problem.

    • in reply to: Summing Time Fields (WXpHe+A2K) #628944

Thank you Mark for pointing out my error. Of course you are right – there are no “Long Time fields” in Access. Just, in my case, “Date/Time” firlds formatted to Long Time.

The data is imported into Long time fields, so what happens next please?

    • in reply to: Where are mail and contacts stored? (2000) #628478

I run a network of (just) 3 Pc’s. Each one has their, own, HDD partioned into C and D. All programmes are on C and all data stored on D. This includes each .pst folder wich is kept in a directory called malibox_pc1 (or pc2 / pc3) that way if the Os goes down our respective Outlook folders are a) backed up nightly from that specific location and easily available. When in July we had to re-install, we only had to point Outlook to that dir to be up and running again fairly quickly. I hope that this tip helps…

    • MIHS that for a start you should review the size of the inserted/attached picture for, if it is too large it is unlikely to be accepted by your or your receipient’s e-mail client. Somewhere in the region of 4Mb may be Ok – but anything in excess may be unsendable…

    • in reply to: Outlook vs Outlook Express (Office 97/IE6 SP1) #624928

      We use Outlook because:
We can print letters and envelopes = whoopy dee, but usefull
we can Task items and e-mails to our Calendar = VIP
we can set Birthdays, Anniversaries etc to remind us in advance, when to send an e-card/fax/snail mail = Very, very, customer / friend oriented = P.s. please do send an animated card to their children…
we can print a diary of selected Category(s)
it is 90% of something rather than 20% of nothing 🙂

    • in reply to: Modem polling (WXpHe) #616414

Hyperbole Rules = OK? Thank You goodly people for solving my modem auto-polling problem. At this point I revert to a Homer Simpson style and go “Doh!” In following Joes advice and links I got to the “I have forgotton this bit of my Pc!” FYI, and anyone else who doesn’t have an ADSL line (on 24/7) (wish I could be) and does not want their modem to auto-poll, please review the snapshot of the “offending” setting – “how could I be so stupid to miss this?” – and change theirs accordungly.

WoW Woody-ians = Thanks to You, your assistance was and is much appreciated.

Hi Dave. Firtly let me correct the polling interval, it is evry 30 mins. I have been timing it whilst I’m working. Next my e-mail client Ms Outlook 2K is set to check for mail every 2 min. However, this programme has not been running – I deliberately turned it off. Norton Av live update is also disabled.
