A very good article with clear, concise points. So how can/will W8 help us at all? Indeed, will we be able to use it on our desktop PC’s? Bear in mind that our screens ARE over 3 years old – so are unlikely to be “touch enabled” Is W8 on a PC better that W7Pro?

    • in reply to: Criteria for wireless router? #1237614

I used a Netgear router for a long time but found, in my environment of a home/office, that the wireless reception was not as good as I expected. Buying a Draytek Vigor 2710n seems to have solved the reception situation. Since the beginning of May 2010 I have only re-booted this router twice. I’m impressed with it.

Have you looked into picassa? I have had slideshows on cd using it!

Whilst not free, I’d recommend Moneysoft’s Money Manager. I’t’s a programme we have used for over 10 years. No annual licensing.

Thanks for the advice – I think I’ll stay with 2003 for the time being.

If you go over to pcpro magazine http://www.pcpro.co.uk there is an excellent article on how you can / can’t upgrade from XP to w7

Might I suggest that your review Moneysoft’s Money Manager. We have been using it since January 2000. Very easy to enter data and some powerful reporting / information screens. It runs under w7 too. BTW I’m not connected to the company – just a very satisfied user. http://www.moneysoft.co.uk

My HP Officejet Pro L7780 has A4 paper in the big paper tray and DL envelopes in the smaller tray. It seems to do a competent job.

      Hi Stuart,
HP says that your model is no longer available! Ebuyer has it though – if this is an “all in 1” device then it’s not for us, unfortunately. We have separate scanners, and fax cards in the pc’s. I’ve been in touch with canon and am arranging the return and replacement of this dog of a printer.

    • in reply to: Customising view #1191183

Further to my op: when I copied another view, (Day/Week/Month) renamed it and edited the More Choices Catergory is exactly Events – the diary displayed is fine. However how do I get the D/w/m to a Table. Copying another Table and filtering using Events still does not display all of the items! Therefore there must be something wrong with the views?

    • in reply to: Conditional formatting of a text box #1189751

If I leave off the conditional formatting, I can make the background of the text box be set to transparent. Adding the conditional formatting, I’m using Access 2003, causes the background to be be changed to solid when the conditional formatting IS NOT =”Corporation Tax” and functions correctly to the chosen conditional formatting colour.

    • in reply to: Conditional formatting of a text box #1189741

Hi Hans. No it doesn’t happen automatically, but I did expect it too. I created the text box, the conditional format does not have a colour of transparent.
