      Why not just go with Microsoft Security Essentials ?
      You’ll have Windows Firewall.
      I used it since it came out, until my bank gave me paid Kaspersky for free, but it was fine, even on some of the very dubious sites I visit.

    • in reply to: Microsoft Click-to-Run update: Is it legitimate? #1464613

      you regularly update anyway, and it ain’t broke, don’t fix it !

      On my little ASUS Win7 notebook, I’ve been getting a pop-up offering an online update for my Office 2010 Starter Edition (click-to-run). I’ve used the notebook for about 3 years and Office 2010 has been on it since the beginning. I’ve never seen any message like this before; it doesn’t look “Microsoft-ish”. I keep the notebook updated with the latest updates from Microsoft and other applications. I did full scans with MalwareBytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, which showed no problems.

      Here’s an image of the pop-up:

      Is this thing legitimate? I did an online chat with Microsoft and the only thing they offered was a link on how to uninstall Office 2010! Not something I want to do.

      Thanks in advance for any info.

      Hi,
      As said before, this is a software Pointer Option, NOT a Mouse Hardware feature.

      Hi,
      I lose connectivity at different times during the day and night, and put it down to interference from mobile phones, and will change the frequency of my router to see if this improves connectivity.

    • in reply to: Win8.1 Update becomes the new patch ‘baseline’ #1450158

      I bought a new desktop with Windows 8 64-bit;
      I see all these forcing hints from MS to “upgrade” to 8.1;
      What I really want, is to downgrade to Windows 7;
      8 and 8.1 are crap for ageing mouse users.

    • in reply to: Need help disabling touch pad #1393440

      Disable the touch pad, by all means, as previously described;
      Do NOT disable the so-called left and right buttons, though;
      If you hit a BSOD, sudden shutdown, or improper reboot, your USB wireless mouse may not work, so you have to have a way of inputing, unless you want to rely on keyboard only, unless that’s USB, too.

      Why not just use ” Secunia P S I ” instead ?

    • in reply to: Incomplete uninstall? #1353025

      Hi,

      Next time you install any trial or freebee program, create a Restore Point before you even download or open the program, you won’t know whether or not it contains malware or not.

      After that , if you uninstall;
      reboot,
      use Restore Point to get you back to where you were before;
      If you can’t use Restore Point, DON’T mess with any of this type of program in the first place;

      Only a putz does that…………

      Live in hope,

      What system cleaners are you using ?

      I use FileHippo.Com Update Checker;
      It seems more comprehensive than Secunia, although I still use both;
      Just don’t use Adobe Betas;
      You can’t fully uninstall them !
