I have a related question! How can I TURN OFF the annoying personalized menus. I go into Tools/Customize and un-select the option. But when I exit and return to any Office 2000 program, the stupid personalized/most used feature has turned itself back on! I want to see all menu options all the time. However Office seems to think I need otherwise…

Tried that, but it didn’t help. I agree that it must be something odd for all Office apps to be affected.

Thanks! I passed on the example. Thanks also for the screenshot. He should have an easier time understanding what you and I are trying to tell him.

Thanks, Phil. I think this will work. He’s getting antsy to just delete the entire mess, but we’ll try just the indexes first.

I checked those links (thanks!) but they didn’t really mention any tools. They did confirm that there is no mega-file like Outlook; there are a collection of files. I have tried Netscape.com but can’t find any mention nor any tools to fix a problem like this. *sigh* Oh well.

    • Eek! Sorry to hear about your troubles. Why did that file get so big?

Anyway, try “Crimson Editor” available at http://www.crimsoneditor.com/
I think it can handle extra large files. I have had very good luck with it. And it is free.

Another that has been recommended to me is “Programmers File Editor” available at http://www.simtel.net/pub/pd/11983.html

      Good luck!

Thank you!!! I tried to find info on Macromedia’s site, but it isn’t very easy to navigate and locate over there. Turns out something had to be reset on my hosted server…and I had to un-select then re-select “Passive FTP” within Dreamweaver.

It works now. Thanks for your efforts!!!

I also considered it being a “temp” directory…but it stuck with that name each time. I thought temp names rolled/changed so as to not overwrite each other. Whatever…

My ISP did something (I don’t know what…just a lot of typing) and I reset my upload to “passive FTP” and everything now works. I still don’t know what all was up.

      Thanks for your help!

    • in reply to: Using non-Admin user accounts (XP-Home) #593266

Thanks for the efforts. I hate having something weird like this happen, and not hear anyone else have the problem, or (even better ) have a solution. If I find one, I’ll post it here to help the group…

    • in reply to: Using non-Admin user accounts (XP-Home) #593265

In XP-Home, there is no “Power User.” Only “Computer Administrator” and “Limited”.

    • in reply to: Using non-Admin user accounts (XP-Home) #593050

Thanks for sticking with this… Just to try something, I created a NEW user as an Admin-type. Works fine. Then went back into the Control Panel and did a “change user type” to non-Admin. That user now doesn’t work at all. I’m not switching between users (e.g. I am NOT using the “switch” feature), I’m just trying to get a non-Admin user functioning. BTW, if I try to create a non-Admin type from scratch, that doesn’t work at all. Shows up on the sign-on screen, but nothing happens when I click on, enter password, and try to get onto the system.

    • in reply to: Using non-Admin user accounts (XP-Home) #592825

Wow. Sounds like you had more headaches than me. While I’m using this computer for my own personal use (business), I only want one other “just in case” user and/or Guest on this computer. Seems that the non-Admin users cannot sign on to this installation. ??? I did check and verified that both HD were NTFS.

I’m puzzled that I can set up an Admin user and sign on with it, but switching that user to non-Admin blocks sign-on. I wonder if this is some lame MS-Marketing to get you to try XP-Pro…

    • in reply to: Blank CDs not recognized (XP home) #576185

Thanks. I was guessing that service…didn’t know if there were any others. Based on your suggestion, I’ll be getting Roxio pronto (the new Easy CD thing). Thanks again!

    • in reply to: Blank CDs not recognized (XP home) #576184

Thanks. Seems that I was trying to get off easy with the lousy built-in service. Based on your suggestion and the other, I’ll be getting Roxio pronto. Thanks!
