    • in reply to: Paste Unformat Macro (PPT 2k SR-2) #532523

OK. Thanks. Tried that, with both Word and PPT running (which is what I would always have going on to need the PasteSpecial, and their workaround doesn’t work. I get a run error at DataType:=wdPasteEnhancedMetafile

They have a comment in their code saying pasting of text doesn’t work. ARG. That is the ONLY reason I would be doing this! Anyone have any cludge workarounds for this?

I want to take Word text and copy it into a specific PPT slide, and take on the existing PPT slide formatting and fonts, etc. A simple paste forces an Arial Unicode font, which messes up a bunch of stuff down the road.

Tried that! The PPT de###### objected to every element of the macro. Where is this cross application consistency that MS promises….

    • in reply to: VQC2 AVI decoder #530904

      For the benefit of others:
I downloaded the update to their hardware drivers to get VQDECODE.DLL (attached). Using MSCONFIG, went into System.ini, Drivers32, and added the entry VIDC.VQC2=VQDECODE.dll
Put VQDECODE.DLL in your system directory, reboot, and it works. bravo

Grrrrrr. Why do companies try to come up with their own “standards” ??? Yeah, it took AskJeeves to find even the name of the company. I was hoping they distribute their codec for viewing, but no… The problem is the video was a demo that already happened…so can’t redo. I’m trying to figure out how to install the codec on my machine…I’m better set up to convert if need be. Any ideas on forcing a codec install?

Thanks! I thought I had checked there, but will check back again. The “official” CompuServe GO POPMAIL didn’t help worth squat.

    • in reply to: newdotnet2_78.dll #527595

Thanks. This is the info I was looking for. Scary thing is the ONLY thing that I loaded was the Earthlink software to make my DSL work.

I also took the “dot” out of the company name…it wasn’t a URL, but no big deal.

    • in reply to: newdotnet2_78.dll #526991

What is this file? I am very concerned that this DLL somehow loaded itself after I re-installed Win98-SE and Office. I had wiped all clean, and the day after, after connecting to the Internet, before my firewall kicked in, this seems to have added itself to the auto-run at boot (not startup folder, but shows up in the MSCONFIG program). This file is located in my WINDOWS folder, with a size of 88k and a date of last Saturday. I have run a spy-ware scan and virus scan, and nothing shows up. Anyone else know what it is? The PROPERTIES VERSION for this file says it is from “New Net, inc.” whoever that is.

    • in reply to: Disappearing icons after Customize #526938

Me too! Did you ever figure out what was going on?

I just did a complete wipe-and-reload of Windows 98-SE and Office 2k with all patches. This is a fresh as it gets. And I have the problem, too…

    • in reply to: Outlook mangles attachments #526544

From within Outlook 2k, I start at the Inbox and use CTRL-N to create a new message. Then add the TO and SUBJECT then either type the message first or use the paperclip icon to attach the attachment first (I’ve tried both). I have also tried dragging the files over to the e-mail and drop-attaching them.

I have made sure MIME is selected with NONE for encoding. I am NOT using Word as my editor. I’ve tried MSCONFIG and unselected everything I can and made sure nothing was even run before testing Outlook. No go. I also un-installed and re-installed Outlook. No go. I’m at the point of un-installing all of Office, deleting the stupid Office directory and re-installing, but am worried that won’t even help…

No. They keep the same name and extension, but are a few k larger, and mangled/unreadable by anything.
