      It sounds to me like this PC will only be on your network until it has been sufficiently updated and patched. If that is the case, is there a reason that you can’t statically assign an IP address for now?

      When in safe mode, can you uninstall the display driver from Device Manager? Perhaps after a reboot you will have the opportunity to install an appropriate driver.

      Do you have active desktop enabled? It sounds like the student changed the background to a bitmap, but Active Desktop overwrites it with a JPG. OR
      The student changed the background to a JPG, but Active Desktop isn’t enabled with the default profile, so your regular BMP ‘covers’ it up.

      Try changing Active Desktop briefly to see if the background changes. You could also try looking for a file called Internet Explorer Wallpaper.
