With the file highlighted hold down the Shift key while hitting the Delete key. You should get a query asking if you really want to delete this file. Click Yes and it will be deleted without the file going to the Delete box.

Apparently a problem continues to exist. After things had been working satisfactorily for about a week, I again went into Tools, Accounts, and then Removed the Broken file. The other identical file was properly designated as Default and continued to be designated as Default after the Removal. But after Removing the Broken file things no longer worked. I could not send and receive e-mail.
So, I followed the procedure prescribed again, created a new identical account and designated the old account as Broken.
Again the new identical account was designated as Default. And lo and behold everything worked again.
Now I am afraid to delete the old file now designated as Broken for fear things will go belly up again. It is not too bad to leave the two accounts in place but there must be an underlying problem that is not evident.
Where should I look for the source of the problem? Am I just cruising blindly into a storm that will come up to bite me at the most inopportune time.?

Deleting this file would allow one download. The file would then be restored and the same problems came back.
I followed the advice in Message 428543 and my problems appear to be solved. Things have been working as they should for three days now.
