• On youtube there is a poster Britec09 who posts many useful items.

Of interest here is an interesting post about the seemingly forced windows 10 update.

He goes through the options including those mentioned above. A quite clear presentation.

I did another forced reset this morning then checked back.

Unloaded the program and also reset Firefox.

Hope that does it.

Thanks all.

The management at Mozilla decided that the new CEO would not be retained because of a personal
political donation in 2008. Gays objected and management folded. The new CEO resigned.

Now there is a counter response of dropping Mozilla. I am dropping them.

There are many alternatives for Desktop, Pad or phone.

Same issue.

Flash seems to be unavailable for Android.

At least, I haven’t found anything.

So the obvious question is, how do we know.

Specifically, since I use Firefox, I am interested in the extensions I use.

• in reply to: Toshiba 3TB GPT Partitioned & Fat32 #1427753

I am Big Al also.

I had 6 partitions on XP. All were NTFS.

It gives a nice separation of everything.

I reciently purchased a Win 7 system and I have reduced it to 3 partitions.

Still working things out. But many partitions lead to resizing them later. I repartitioned
them about 5 times. A pain.

Seems the format of the differing partitions between Fat and NTFS is your choice.
But nothing to back that up.

I recommend going to and open each individual address folder and take a snapshot of your contacts. Save them in your pictures with an appropriate folder title.

If your address contacts merge into one file, this will be a visual backup to untangle them.

I do like the site above http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270670

• in reply to: A philosophical question on disk partitioning #1310008

I purchased Acronis Disk Director about 2 years back and have used it 3 times now.

Having the system look for an old partition for the programs loaded on E:Programs would be a show stopper. Uninstall then reinstall all of them would be a hassle. Though I have programs that I do not or seldom use.

I have thought about reloading XP from scratch. If that was the case, then I would simply have to reload all the programs I still use that were on E:Programs. I have saved most of the miscellaneous program exe files.

More thought about the cleanup required.

Thanks

• in reply to: A philosophical question on disk partitioning #1309362

I am convinced that I should combine partitions for C and E drives as noted below per prior discussion in this thread.
C Windows
E Programs
F Data
G Backup
X Hidden
Is there a special precaution in combining them with Acronis Disk Director?

That is to combine two partitions they need to be adjacent.
Is there anything else?
Will the existing programs in both partitions work as before?
That is, will it be seamless?
I am planning on some partition adjustment near Christmas. I am running XP.

• in reply to: A philosophical question on disk partitioning #1303984

It has been a while since my last post.

I have had a number of partitions since I purchased my current computer a couple of years back. I use Acronis Disk Director.
I took the opportunity to purchase XP due to familiarity on the system.

C Windows
E Programs
F Data
G Backup
X Hidden

Last week I decided to resize, (second time since the original setup) I eliminated the hidden drive and increased two of the partitions.

I have been using the recently departed Karen Ware Replicator for backup of C, E and F to G.

As I understand the prior discussion, you all would recommend at a minimum that I combine C and E drives.

The concept makes sense to me. Am I understanding your recommendation?

Use a utility called Tiny Watcher. Google it, it is first on the list.

It is free. It works.

The program starts by taking a snapshot of important parts of your Windows system; then it tracks
changes (every time you log in, or whenever you want to). When a change is detected, you are notified.

When a suspicious item is detected, however, you will be informed about it. You will be able to decide
what to do about it (some items can be disabled or removed right away).

My first reply since system converted.

I have been looking to purchase a scanner for paper and for converting 35mm film. I have decided on the Canon Cano Scan 8800F Flatbed Scanner, about $180 thru Amazon but have yet to place an order.

Two other lower price scanners are CanoScan 5600F Flatbed Scanner and CanoScan LIDE 100 Flatbed Scanner.

I am interested in the Acronis True image, and filled out a form on the 2nd or third. A web response indicated that email was coming.
No Email to date.

Has anyone had similar experience or has anyone actually received the Email that was promised?
