Many people do not have any idea how unsafe Facebook can be. They blindly put things there that may come back to haunt them. Any site where an individual posts confidential info can be unsafe, and most crooks count on this.

I routinely tell clients, friends, family, and anyone else who’ll listen that Facebook is the single most dangerous website in the world for the average internet user. P2P, etc. might get you sued, jailed, or infected, but Facebook can get your identity stolen – or your well-being, maybe even your very life. There are plenty of anecdotal incidents of people getting burglarized or similar victimization by putting on Facebook that they are out of town.

Personally, I think there should be a law that gives parents the right to ban tags of their child’s name or children’s names on photos containing their children even if they aren’t the photographer. Ironically, Facebook’s and Google’s facial recognition feature would make this more than plausible.

    • The answer to your title question is rather simple – it comes down to organization. I receive hundreds of emails per day… your email to me very well may get overlooked. Also, I tend to not use my business email for personal use and vice versa. Lastly, you organize your email one way, and other people organize (or don’t) their email another way. The use of Groups or Circles separates those communications in distinct yet uniform ways.

Incidentally, using Groups or Circles it is difficult to send a message to the wrong ‘Jennifer’ or ‘Bob’, especially if you have auto-fill turned on in your email client for contacts.

Surely now you begin to see there are many additional reasons to use Groups or Circles instead of, or in addition to, email.

(Personally I prefer Instant Message – but NOT text messages nor PMs via websites/services.)
