The simple way to restore your hibernate file has already been suggested. To reiterate, go into power options and turn off hibernation then defrag then turn it back on. You will then have a freshly created file. Also as was pointed out earlier, Perfectdisk will defrag the file offline. IMHO hibernation is great for a laptop but potential misery on a desktop. This should hopefully be your biggest problem in life.

Sorry for the delay in my reply but life was getting in the way. I did look through every entry and nothing looked funny except for the no values in several “REG SZ” entries. I am going to (eventually) compare the entries with another similar installation when I get an opportunity. My guess is that the entries with the missing values are the issue. Thanks for your suggestions.

If you want to have the ability to use any machine for your output then you need to be able to export in STL format. As for what I do, I design jewelry. The SLA machine that I outsource to use runs around $250,000US. If you do not run it full everyday you are losing money. If you need large parts you should try http://www.quickparts.com/%5B/url%5D they have an online cost estimator. You also might want a program that will generate finished pictures from the engineering file as the sample I attached to this post. Sorry that the resolution is low, the forum has limitations.

Looking around the web site I could not find what file type used as export possibilities. I did see that their SLA choice was limited to a crude level limited to wall thickness of .030″ minimum and minimum height of .040″. I use a Viper SLA at .001″ per build layer which enables wall thickness down to .005′ if you need. Many of my parts are graduated in thickness from .010″ on up. A bit long winded way of saying that if you are doing anything small and need accuracy, you need to look somewhere else.

Another convenient use for MovieMaker. I had a little 54mb AVI movie (6 seconds). After running it through MovieMaker using the defaults for the best result (largest file) it became a 786kb (a 68 to 1 reduction) this enabled me to email the file with no restriction.

Thanks for the thought but I did that twice, once with jv16 powertools and once with regedit manually. Apparently there is a key with who knows what as a label and that scribble for an entry. The uninstaller and or Windows must have burped when the uninstall was in progress.

You may want to look at Karen’s Replicator found at http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp%5B/url%5D It can sync in one or both directions and is fairly fast. The only quirk is if a file is open it will not back it up. When I use it for my laptop to my external HD I must remember to close Outlook first.

      “…plausible if not rather drastic…”
You really need to get out more. The suggestion made to copy the disc to your hard drive is a basic installation technique used all over the world. Many IT departments create a third partition called Source and copy all programs and drivers to it and install everything from there. This is especially valuable to laptop users that have a breakdown when they are traveling. It is also makes things easier when a desktop breaks down and the IT guy walks by 1,000 other computers to fix yours he can be confident that all needed program info will be there not back in another building. The home user benifits by not having to locate the disc and risk scratching or damaging or for that matter remembering where those pesky discs were put for safe keeping. The benifit with regards to Office 2000 is that when you go to Office Update you never need to put in your discs as the installation source is always availabe to Windows and the updates are completed seamlessly without user intervention.

    • in reply to: Nero Replacement? #1056532

I also disliked some of the ways the new Nero worked so I uninstalled everything except the Burning program. I intend to add Recode and Vision back in when an update occurs. Since you have successfully uninstalled the program, you may try a custom install of the latest version (still 7.7.5.1) with the Burning program only.

I do not know if it will integrate but a very good free audio editor is “Audacity” found at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/%5B/url%5D

Trend Micro is offering a free upgrade to 2007 from 2006.A friend across the hall sent me the notice but I deleted it as I am already running 2007 on all my computers. I will see if Scott still has the email and post the link next week if available.

You may want to look at this one http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/product-d…2&s=electronics%5B/url%5D My neighbor just got it and says it is incredible compared to several others that he has used. Also the reviews are very favorable.

    • in reply to: Windows XP Post-SP2 Update Pack (SP2) #1052184

What has worked for me and many others around the world is to slipstrem SP2 into your CD and use AutoPatcher for everything else. AutoPatcher contains all updates (critical and optional) as-well-as numerous optional tweaks and add-ins. Figure about one hour to select and install all your updates.

If you have a PCMCIA slot you can buy a card with USB 2.0-firewire and or SATA connectors. Here is one of many available http://www.byterunner.com/cgi-bin/cart.cgi…t_name=USBFWPCM%5B/url%5D

After you get things updated you may want to look at http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/%5B/url%5D for a newer video driver.
