    • in reply to: Underlining in colour using keyboard only #1199618

Many moons ago in post http://bro.ws/681933LWS Home » Lounge Lobby » Office Applications » Word Processing » Thread”]underline [/url] I asked how to make the line colour -when underlining text- different from that of the text itself and was given step by step directions on how to achieve the task BUT. Since upgrading my computer last month I decided to renew all my keyboard shortcuts and discover that I am unable to drag the “UnderlineColour” title either to a toolbar or to the “Format” tab. I am still using XP Office Proff. 2003. Any obvious reason why it will not drag? I don’t recall it refusing to export when following the directions originally. Thanks Dave.

I also tried it out when it first came out, and ended up removing it. I do recommend using Secunia Personal Software Inspector, it focuses on programs that need an update for security reasons.

Thanks Bonnie….. thanks for the comment, I already have Secunia installed and run it regularly, am satisfied with it’s performance too. Regards Dave. a little something to brighten your day…..Amazing child

    • in reply to: Java Error Colsole #1197044

The error console is not the Java console, they are unrelated. The error console is part of Firefox.

Do you have the web developer add-on installed?
If you have that add-on, on the web developer toolbar select “Options > Options” to open the web developer options dialog.
In that options dialog go to the Miscellaneous section, and de-select the options to open the error console when a page generates errors.

The error console appearing automatically can be caused by other add-ons, for example the Mouse Gestures add-on has been known to cause this to happen, for details see Error Console Automatically Opens – mozillaZine Forums

If you do not have the Mouse Gestures add-on, you can troubleshoot your extensions to see if one of them is causing this to happen. For details of how to do that see Troubleshooting extensions and themes – Mozilla knowledge base

Hello Tony….the short answer is Yes I just downloaded the Mouse Gestures add-on a couple of days ago and the Errors Console problem synchronises with that date so I am inclined to uninstall it right away as I don’t really think it is of great assistance to me personally as I tend to gravitate to keyboard shortcuts anyway seeing too much mouse activity can lead ro RSI. So I have just used Revo Uninstaller and got rid of the said troublemaker. Firefox called for a reboot to complete the task and the when it did so, there was no sign of the Error Console page when I went to open Firefox. Hopefully that is the end of that but will let you know if it reappears. Many thanks Dave.

Just confirming that Judy’s suggestion seems to do the job in fixing the posted document.

Judy, with regard to changing the default behavior, did you open up to your Normal.dot to check whether it was stuck with that setting for some reason?

      Gary

Thanks Judy…hitting the One column option instantly extended the lines of text that obviously did not have a “Return” symbol
shown. I suspect it has something to do with the set up of the computer on which the document was created.!!!!! Cheers Dave.

Can you post a copy of the file?

The text is simply the answer given to get one out of the room which I copied and pasted into a Word Doc for the putpose of sending it to friends if they fail to achieve the task. Cheers Dave.

I played with this a bit and uninstalled it. It only detects products that are in CNET’s dowload.com site. So, many of your major commercial applications won’t be there. It did nothing bad to my system. I disabled the automatic startup and did manual scans when I felt like it. So, you can give it a try and see how you like.

      Joe

Thanks Joe ….I think I will give it a miss as it does not seem to be of any great advantage to have installed….Thanks Dave.

You might want to try the free image editor/manipulator GIMP, which has a Cartoon Filter.

Thanks gents for the responses…… will look further at the suggestions made. Cheers Dave.

    • in reply to: How to stop “Shopper Reports” from appearing #1193827

Have you checked your Add and Remove Programs for it?

Thanks a bunch Leif. I had no idea it was a programme / app, never thought to look in the “Add/Remove” app in the Control Panel. I have uninstalled it so hopefully that will be the end of that niusance. Can’t for the life of me recall having opened the gateway to the HD for this to take up residence. Many thanks Dave.

    • in reply to: Media Easy Start botton #1193737

I moved this thread to “Other Applications” as it had nothing to do with Word (or any word processing application).

      Joe

….will try to bear that in mind…..Dave.

    • in reply to: Media Easy Start botton #1193704

Easy Start Button is indeed a program to configure extra keys (buttons) on some keyboards. If your brother would rather not run it, he can try to disable the startup entry for Easy Start Button (esb.exe).

He can download and install the free utility WhatInStartup. This easy-to-use utility shows which programs start automatically, and lets you disable entries if you want to.

Many thanks Hans… will forward your suggestion to him and endeavour to disable it next time I pay him a visit. Cheers as ever & thanks a bunch. Dave.

Does this happen in Microsoft Word? You posted this question in the Word Processing forum…

Sorry if I posted it in the wrong forum…… could not ascertain where else to post it. Can’t remember what he was doing when it appeared on screen…. I think he was trying to access the net. He seems to think the computer engineer who set up his m/c infered it relates to the little green lights that are located along the top of his keyboard. Otherwise, short of going over to look at it again I’m sorry I can’t offer any further info about the issue. Thanks Dave..
