Thanks each for the feedback. Downloading You Tube stuff like sermons/debates/talks etc I find dead easy using Freemake downloader & extracting the audio track from the video is equally easy using iWisoft but -as I said- Airy performs both operations at the same time and is very quick. Sad about the cost though, almost everything I use I got free except “ConvertXtoDVD” & recently Ashampoo 14 both of which I got when on special offer. Regards Dave.

Thanks gents…. I seem to recall following the second tip a few weeks ago and yes, as suggested, I did loss my sound and had to download the drivers again with help from the technician from my local computer shop who built the computer. Think I will just tollerate the slight inconvenience of having to delete the message every tiem I boot up. Thanks again S F.

    • in reply to: Tape recorder to computer #1255725

Thank Chuck…………..will probe into what Behringer U-Control offers and see where I go from there. Sadly my old tape recorder does not have an Output socket only that of the Phones. Seems Like I will have to persevere with the set up I have as it works ok but would still like to dispense with the turntable which takes up valuable shelf space. What I can’t make sense of is, if I connect the Phones output socket on the tape recorder to the turntable, then the output socket on the turntable to a usb socket on the base unit, the “EZ Vinyl converter by MixMeister” software recognises the connection and allows me to transfer the cassette data to the HD in mp3 format, this even if the turntable is not connected to the mains. This seems to suggest that there is something within the turntable curcuitry that the software needs to recognise before it will activate. Anyone else out there got an ION turntable with the said software that comes with it? Regards S Fox

Hi ……just a couple of points… most all of the cassettes I want to copy to the computer contain sermons so -unlike music tapes- there are no pauses between tracks, the only break is when I have to turn the tapes to side B. Transfering to computer is only phase A as my ultimate goal is to burn them to CD in mp3 format seeing cassettes are out of fashion & can deteriorate. Besides, tape recorders are becoming less visible in stors and the one I have is on crutches so I want a more up to date medium which can easy lend itself to back-up copies. The question of “Space” relates to that taken up by the LP turntable rather than space on the HD so an external drive is not relevant though I do have a Seagate 170 GB one. I guess I will carry on using the refered to software and tollerate the turntable even though it clutters the shelf space seeing the EZ Vinyl Converter – besides transferring the dat to HD – also converts it to mps format so I am able to copy dozens of sermons to each CD thus minimising storage space. Thanks for the reply S Fox…

Look at your printer preferences. Many printer drivers, like the one form my HP D4100, let you select something like “print in grayscale”.

Thanks Peter…. have copied your reply and forwarded it to my friend who has the problem..I looked at the settings for my SX215 and did see a tab for “Grayscale” printing but could not see one for “Black” only which I seem to remember seeing was an option on the C46 model – which my friend now has -. Will phone her and see what she can find among the settings for the said model. Thanks again Dave.

You may want to try F11 also, it toggles ‘Full Screen’ mode.

.thanks for all the responses….. always appreciate them….Dave.

Sorry, my information must have been obsolete. I’m still using version 3.5.9.

certainly no need to be sorry, I’m always delighted when willing people take the time to offer their expertise regardless of it being (maybe) out of date.

I would have posted the question where Hans resides but could not access my “Favourites file to access the said forum URL Just as well my account is still
live on this site which over the years has been a fantastic help to me as I have groped my way through the fog in IT land. cheers Dave.

    • in reply to: Restoring tool bars in Firefox #1228744

It’s pretty difficult to delete the menu bar. How did you do that? Is it possible you are in a script-generated window? Press Ctrl+N to display a new window and see whether it has a menu bar. Once you have even one toolbar or menu bar, you will be able to right-click and configure the others.

Thanks each…. “Menu bar” it was in fact dead easy to delete it as all one has to do is right click and un-tick the first box in the drop down sub menu !!!!! Regarding the answer to my original question, whilst waiting for an answer I did some fishing on Firefox help & discovered that by simply hitting the Alt key brings the tool bar into view. [In fact toggling the Alt key displays / hides it.]
      Thanks anyway…appreciate the responses….Dave.

    • in reply to: Office 2003 Updates fail to install #1208762

Are you running the repair with an administrator account or normal user account? If you are running under a normal user account, then log in to XP using an administrator account.

If you have been running as administrator, then may I suggest that since you continue to get error messages and cannot repair, that you try to uninstall Office 2003 and install again. Use Revo Uninstaller found here . It would not take very long to reinstall. There may well be some file / registry corruption halting the repair process. Revo should remove all traces including registry entries.

Thanks Gerald.. I already have Revo Uninstaller downloaded & find it dead easy to use and -as you say- roots out from the registry all traces of the prog being deleted so I may have a go though for me it will be a first SO must give it much thought……Regards Dave.

    • in reply to: Saving Screen shots using Faststone Capture #1208527

I’m really not understanding the problem. How can FastStone Capture save as Photosuite 2? What do you mean?

Are you saying that when you try to take a screenshot, that Photosuite 2 starts and not FastStone Capture?

Are you saying that when you try to open a file that was captured and saved by FastStone Capture that Photsuite2 is the program that opens the file? If this is the case, then you just need to re-associate a file type (say, .bmp) with FastStone Capture.

Althouth I am not clear on the problem, perhaps re-installing FastStone Capture may restore the previous situation. Or there may be file association options in FS Capture that will do the same thing without a re-install.

      Maybe this helps. …J. Till

Please forget my request for assistance on this point as I have simply uninstalled Photo Suite 2 and the problem is history…Sorry for the confusion….Regards Dave.
