What model printer? What printer driver?

Ahhh warm weather and good cabernet (sounds like my combo!)
My experience with Norton and Office XP was not promising. Outlook and word would hang/freeze all the time. I was repairing Outlook at least 2x per week. I finally removed Norton and replaced with Mcafee and rarely have any problems now.

The only other thing I can think of is to install it under administrator account as a local printer (not networked) then go to the printer properties | Ports tab | Add Port — highlight local port | New port and enter the path to the network printer.
You have 3000 computers so this would not work. If you do imaging then you could have added printers locally during the configuration process. Other then that my mind goes back to a login script…

Do you have an NT domain with 2K workstations – what is your network setup?
You could place the printer in a login script.
      Check out Kixstart
(just place the users in a group)

      IF (InGroup(“prn_grp”) = 1)
      AddPrinterConnection (“PrtSrvprn_1”)
      SetDefaultPrinter (“PrtSrvprn_1”)
      ELSE
      AddPrinterConnection (“PrtSrvprn_2”)
      SetDefaultPrinter (“PrtSrvprn_2”)
      ENDIF

Just create the same user account with the same password on 2000 that you are using from XP.

    • in reply to: Word 2000 Clip Art Dialog Box (Word 2002) #656048

In XP you do not have the gallery (artgalry.exe) – instead you have the clip organizer. That is the one feature that I really miss from 2000. One thing I can suggest is that you click on the click organizer (after going to Insert |picture |clipart) then go to File | add clips to organizer | automatically — then click OK to get the clips cataloged

Go to start | run and type regedit
      Do you have this key?
      Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

      “Navigation Type”=dword:00000000
      “Theme Type”=dword:00000000

All the errors are too generic! Do you use Norton Antivirus? Adobe?
Another idea is to go to autoupdate (both for windows and office) and check your history to see if any patchesupdates failed.

    • in reply to: Installed programs not listed in Add/Remove (XP SP1) #655931

Good question – I do not know! Strange things happen in MS operating systems – generally there is always a method available to uninstall a program that is not listed in add/remove. – too many possibilities and best to reinstall to get it back into add/remove programs.

    • in reply to: Document Map Font Small (XP) #655919

Do the 6 computers w/ XP have the same graphics cards?
Are they all using the same view?
On the toolbar is the zoom setting the same for each computer?
Is this happening with various files that have map – or specific files (like ones saved from 97?)
Are the 6 computers all using the same printer?

    • in reply to: Opening .msg files (OE6/O2000) #655915

Outlook Express stores saved e-mails as EML and Outlook 2000 (1 of the options ) is to save as MSG. I’ll check around.
