AskWoody LoungerThanks again to F.U.N. for my answer 6 years and 2 months ago – LOL
I’ve downloaded the latest version of Teracopy and it’s working great on Win10. You guys are all the greatest.

AskWoody LoungerOooookkkkaaayyy…… that was weird… LOL. I removed CP and went to the java site, told it to upgrade me to the latest version. It told me that java 8 needed a newer version of windows to fully operate (???) and then went ahead and tried to install version 8_91. I got the same notice that it didn’t finish installing. Went back to the java site and told it to check my java, it says “congratulations you have the latest version (8_91) installed.” Went to POGO where I needed the latest java to play some of the games and guess what? they all worked just fine! I’m not getting the problem with Macafee that I was having and everything seems to be working ok. I really don’t understand what’s going on, but as long as things work I’m not going to argue with it – LOL. Apparently CP WAS having something to do with the problems, so I’m going to leave it uninstalled.
Many many thanks for the information Sudo, you’re the best.

AskWoody LoungerMany thanks Sudo, I’ll try removing CP and then try installing the newest JAVA again. I’ve also downloaded the two cleaners you recommended and will use them to get rid of CP.

AskWoody LoungerSorry for taking so long to reply, been sick. I tried your suggestion, unfortunately JAVA would not even try to install in safe mode, it immediately went to the error screen. I noticed in another post a comment that cryptoprevent could cause problems with certain installs. Could that be causing a problem with JAVA?
-
WSshadow35
AskWoody LoungerThanks for the advice, I’ll give that a try and let you know what happens.
-
WSshadow35
AskWoody LoungerNope, don’t see anything referring to JAVA on the McAfee page. Attached is what I get when checking McAfees security center. As you can see, McAfee thinks that all features are turned on.
I’m running an older version of JAVA which doesn’t give any problems, it’s only when I install the latest version that the problem occurs.

AskWoody LoungerPersonally, I like Macrium Reflect free version. It will do everything you need. You can make backup/copies of any partitions or the whole computer or let Macrium choose which partitions you will need for a restore. It has saved my butt several times.

AskWoody LoungerGlad to hear that it worked out for you Bill. Hotkey is a very useful little proggy. If you can figure out the exact series of keys to do a thing, you can get Hotkey to do it for you at a single key press.
Have a good one my friend.

AskWoody LoungerI contacted logitech about the problem and they said that the ‘double click’ function isn’t supported in the 310 mouse which is why I went with the ‘launch program’ function for the scroll wheel. Be sure that you put the .exe program that was created in a place that any user can access and that you have put the entire address for that location in the “select program” box. It took me a little while to find a location that would work. I made several copies of the .exe program and put it in several places that I knew wouldn’t get accidentally erased, then changed the address in the “select program” box until one worked.
I notice that you say you ‘ran’ the .exe program, but you can’t just run the .exe proggy, it’s address has to be put in the ‘select program’ box and setpoint will run it when you click the scroll wheel.

AskWoody LoungerYeppers, and the double click proggy is still working great.
-
WSshadow35
AskWoody LoungerThanks J, that’s useful info.

AskWoody LoungerThanks for all the good advice guys. I’m letting it install one update at a time with time and testing in between, trying to figure which one screwed me up. So far so good.

AskWoody LoungerIt doesn’t look or act like any ‘popup’ that I’ve seen before (doesn’t mean that it isn’t one, of course). Never had a ‘popup’ block out the upper tabs before. I have followed the steps in post #3 without getting any notices from the programs that they had found anything, and you can usually close out a popup. This you can’t get rid of except by closing and restarting your browser.
-
WSshadow35
AskWoody LoungerThat looks very much like what I get, only mine is usually a lot longer covering about 2/3 of the width of the screen. However, I don’t have a listing for BaiduAn or any other program of the type in the control panel program listings.

AskWoody LoungerApril 4, 2015 at 12:37 pm in reply to: New External Hard Drive – Does it require formatting? #1498723Personally, I am using a 750 Gig WD drive and the free version of Macrium Reflect for my backups. I didn’t have to do any formatting on the WD drive and Macrium works just fine with it. It has saved my tail a number of times – LOL
