      thanks – that helped!

Sorry – The “Barnes” set is formatted the way it should be. The ESP set is my clumsy attempt to duplicate the original arrangement. I have even created a chart type based on the desired format, but when I used the chart type, the labels still wrapped. The charts need to be printed on 8.5″ x 11″ paper.

      Thanks for your time.

I’m sure you told me that the first time and I heard what I thought I SHOULD be hearing. Thank for for your patience.

I entered 1200 in the first blank. This calculated in the second field. I entered a Department name in the third field – because little seemed to happen if the calculated field is the last “action.” Then I went back and changed the first field to a different number.

      Thanks for your time.

I’m doing that – and it works the first time through. Calculate on exit is checked. But if I go back and change the source amount (the value upon which the calculation is based), I can’t get the calculation to REcalculate. Does it recalculate for you?

The file was simply too large. I’ve zipped it and will try sending it that way. I look forward to your comments

I tried to send you a couple small files – a tiny sample Excel file and the Access file as well. I was unable to do it – maybe because of settings here at the office. If I can’t get them done, I’ll take them home and try again.

    • in reply to: fields captions (2000) #874631

No, I requested what I wanted – access to the captions for a table. It’s a relatively simple system, and the user may want to see the raw data in the table. Thus I want to caption the table fields so that if he does so, the columns of the table are appropriately named. I am giving the user 8 user-named fields, originally Field1, Field2, etc. plan a setup screen from which he could caption the fields. There is a form in which he enters his data, but modifying the labels for the form fields has not been the challenge that captioning the table fields has.

Evidently cleaning up Normal.dot solved the problem. Thank you for your suggestions. I learned several things in the process, and that’s always a bonus.
