I have no compelling reason to move to win 11 until win 10 expires.

I watch videos, play non triple A games, and process photos. The thrill of installing a new OS is gone!

Running Win7 home premium 64bit in an administrator acct.(Yes I know that’s not smart). Was unable to stop diag. tracking, but allowed me to disable it. After about an hour it had restarted. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I had been running 8.0 on a desktop with the “classic shell” installed.I was chomping at the bit to install8.1. Encountered quite a few of the bugs mentioned by W8.1Preview Tester, including a very buggy IE11 and my MS keyboard(lol) that wouldn’t work properly. I did do a disk image just before updating. I restored that image in short order.

Virtual Box install of 64 bit version went fine on 64 bit host. Running it with 3gigs of ram on an i5 desktop. Worked OK first time then on 2nd attempt started flickering and freezing. Had to shut it down by powering down as opposed to shutting down win 8. Before trying Fred’s solution I had tried dual booting with win 7,but ran into trouble as soon as I tried to change the default startup settings of the bootloader( no longer gave me a choice of operating systems). Maybe I’ll try a 3rd party option like “easybcd”.

In regards to System Mechanic; I completely agree with the above comments. I’m seeing more and more of these rather poorly researched articles appearing in Windows Secrets and have indicated to them that I am not renewing my paid subscription for just this reason.

I agree with the posts in this thread. I tried it briefly when I still had my P4, but now that I’ve upgraded to an i5 ,z68 mobo and SSD boot drive, I see absolutely no need for it.

Not depending on PCs for a living,I normally install all patches pertaining to my software, security, etc., even though I normally browse this column.Yesterday, after patching, my wireless USB mouse and Chrome went bonkers.Did a restore, turned off auto updates, and will now only install patches when OK’d by Ms. Bradley.
