The newsletter is supposed to be about WINDOWS. It’s even in the name. Screw diversity and the horse it rode in on. If you want crap about linux, look for it elsewhere.

I thought the name of this newsletter was Windows Secrets. I DO NOT subscribe to read about Linux. SCREW THIS!

    • in reply to: dBASE dialog migration guidance requested #1345887

      1. FoxPro easily opens dBase data.
      2. An application written in dBase just might run FoxPro with a few modifications. Why you’d want to do that, I don’t know.
      3. An app simple enough to be useful in dBase could probably be easily converted to a GUI in FocPro by running a FoxPro wizard.
      4. VFP 9 sp3 runs fine even in Windows 8. No need for official support. You really have to get crazy to need it. Peer support is still fantastic.
      5. Last but not least — Visual FoxPro has never been made open source so where is the likelihood of becoming unstable?

Why would anyone trust “cloud” data storage for personal, much less business data storage? Oh, I know I’m old fashioned and out of date, but I all I have to do is point you to Quicken’s pending shutdown.

    • in reply to: Restore point Access denied #1210956

I guess this thread can die without a solution. My problem is fixed, but not in a good way. I had an unrelated problem that I tried to fix by using a restore point that Windows upgrade had created. It refused to restore using the same error code. In my frustration, I decided to re-install Windows on top of itself. Problem solved.

I just performed a Windows Update. It always creates a restore point. It did this time also. It has the ability to do so when I can’t manually do so, nor can Revo Uninstaller do it programatically. Is there some kind of “permissions” issue here?

    • in reply to: Restore point Access denied #1210031

      Gerald,

Nope. I’m using AVG, which is what I’ve been using since I installed Windows 7. My problem began recently. I read that some people had troubles after Microsoft’s last Patch Tuesday. I’ve had no such trouble, unless this problem was caused by the patch.

    • in reply to: New HDD & Win 7 Install #1209998

I did a clean install on a brand new (and larger) hard drive with no problems whatsoever and I’m the kind of guy who seems to have problems 🙂 It was very fast, even on a three year old 1.67 Ghz Core 2 processor and only 2 GB ram. I seem to remember only one re-boot. I love Win7.
