Thanks for all the responses. I reversed my rule to follow the Slipstick example and it works fairly well – not 100%, but a big help. A couple of in-company emails were moved to the non-company folder, but no non-company emails were left in the Inbox.

Thanks. I didn’t realize each view had its own setting.

    • in reply to: Default email program in Internet Explorer (6.0) #645204

I have the opposite problem. When I click on a mailto: link on a web page or Office document, Outlook Express starts instead of Outlook.

I am running on a corporate Win2kPro machine that was recently converted from using Lotus Notes to Outlook 2k. The rest of Office Pro 2k is also installed.

I thought your previous answer was the clue, but the OE ‘General’ tab states that OE is not the default email program. IE (5.5) ‘Programs’ tab also lists Outlook as the email program.

Any idea how to make Outlook behave like a good default program should? Thanks.

Could you give more detail as to what you did to get Outlook to detect Lotus Notes? Thanks.

      Thanks, that fixed it.

When I was doing the import, the description of General on the import wizard seemed to indicate that it would do refomatting on the numbers and dates, so I chose Text.

Something else is going on: I’m finding some cells with way more than 255 bytes that display correctly. On the first cell I was testing, I reduced the byte count to 255 and got rid of the problem, hence my assumption.

    • in reply to: SP2 bad reg entries (XP SP2) #613450

I have had no problems with SP2. I regularly use Windoctor to look for invalid or defective reg entries, as well as invalid shortcuts. These I listed are just one of several flagged reg entries. I don’t understand how this is a matter of compatibility between Windoctor and SP2. The errors appear to be fairly straightforward. As to the last two of the three having the same classID, see the ProgID.

One ‘feature’ I’ve noticed with some software is the addition of reg entries for features that are not installed. Could this be an example?

Also, I’ve started learning VBA and maybe these entries were caused by an incomplete project.

One last point – this info from the Clipmate FAQ:
      ———————–
Why does Visual Basic copy data at startup?
You hear a “POP” or “BOING” (depending on the application profile) when you launch VB6, because they are using the clipboard to put icons onto the toolbar. This is a dreadful programmer “short-cut” which was also used in the dreaded “Internet Assistant for Word” add-in. Programmers should never do this. We have some more information for programmers here .

Other abusers: Quicken (the calculator), several card games (hearts, especially).
      ——————————-

I tried VB6 and found that it puts an icon of a question mark on the clipboard, resulting in a ‘pop’ from Clipmate. And now Word is doing the same thing. Before I tried VB, Word was doing something that resulted in a blank entry on Clipmate, and the ‘boing’ sound. I’ll try this experiment one more time after rebooting to see if Word reverts to the ‘boing’ entry. BTW: the ‘boing’ sound indicates “New Clipboard Data Ignored, due to duplicate or inappropriate data.”

And thanks for all the help. This great site is always my first go-to for information.

I have the same problem – no red in collapsed view.

    • in reply to: Startup sound (2002 sp2) #612004

Problem solved. I did a search for all the .wav files and found the boing sound (named Ignore.wav) comes from Clipmate. It wasn’t Word making the sound, it was Clipmate reacting to Word’s opening. Must be something Word does with the clipboard.

      Attached: ‘boing’

I was referring to the Word options, but I checked the Sounds panel. No sound assigned to Open, and found that not one of the dozens of labelled sounds is the ‘boing’ sound.

    • in reply to: Capture addresses from list (2002) #561588

Thanks for the info. I tried dragging once and found that the cc list from Notes is sub-optimum for this process. It puts spaces into the name and drops off the .com. Time to cut code. Or maybe Notes can export addresses.

    • in reply to: Bad shortcut #560421

Perchance I have. After a few retweaks (X-Setup), problem solved. Thanks. Ross
