    • Holdum 333, I don’t have a Facebook account – just had been thinking about whether I should get one – been “thinking” for months, no decision yet!
      Thanks for compliment on site.

(Tending to agree that probably an Edge bug.)

    • Yes, she hasn’t had any problems otherwise with Edge – just on the Facebook public sites. And it seems to be with any public Facebook site. I just tried another one unrelated to Bridges for Peace … this one is a local church and got the same result.

I’m not a Facebook fan either although I’ve been flip flopping on whether I should set one up just to promote my web site a bit since it doesn’t get much traffic.

    • Looks like I started an interesting conversation here. Just came back and saw all these posts.
Here’s a screen snip of what we get when she goes to the public Facebook site. There’s a quick flash of the page and this box pops up in front of it with the page dimmed out. If she clicks the Log In button, then it goes to the page in holdum333’s post #5.

Yes, she’s used to Internet Explorer on her old Vista laptop and I could easily install it for her but she’s just gotten used to Edge and I was hoping to get it to work so as not to have to give her too many options. She likes one way of doing things. However it necessary I’ll go there.

I used Foxit PDF Editor to do this. Simply open pdf files with this editor and delete any page of your choice.

Thanks for the response but I think you missed the comment in my first post (middle of second paragraph) that it was too time consuming to try to delete blank pages manually as there will be hundreds of pages to go through. However I’ve seen various posts in the forum talking about Foxit so I should look into it for other uses.

Do two scans, one with the blank pages and one without, then compare the sizes of the two pdfs. I think you’ll find that leaving the blank pages in only adds about 2-3 KB per page. That’s probably not worth your time to bother trying to remove them.

I did try the experiment – 50 single sided sheets of text scanned one side, then tried 25 of the same sheets scanned double sided to give 50 pages of which half were blank. The second result was much smaller file than the first so confirmed that the blanks were barely registering in the file size. So yes, no point in bothering to remove them. Case closed.

Just to let you know it’s been almost a week and Flash seems to be running along smoothly. No errors or messages saying it’s not installed. So unless something else occurs, I’m considering problem solved.

A clean install would be good, but it could be that you have remnants of an old version on your system which will not go away and are coming back to bite you. Use an uninstaller such as Revo to thoroughly uninstall it, including a Registry scan, and then check the location WindowsSystem32MacromedFlash, and delete anything that is in there. If you have a 64 bit system, do the same for Syswow64MacromedFlash. It could also be that you have an outdated auto updater running. Check your startup items, and your scheduled tasks, and remove anything related to Flash. Then go to https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ . This will detect your browser and offer you the correct version for that browser – ignore any offers for spurious software, and download/install it.

Thanks. I used Revo and it seemed to think Flash was installed while other applications said it wasn’t. I allowed Revo to remove everything it could find for Flash. Then checked both folders you indicated (I have 64-bit) and there were no Macromed folders in either of them. There was nothing in Startup and Task Scheduler at this point relating to Flash. Reinstalled Flash and up and running now. Will see if it stays running. Also cleaned up a few items in Startup that I rarely use.

My email program (Incredimail) apparently also uses Flash and interestingly enough there was a Flash graphic in it that hadn’t been working for some weeks although the email program worked properly otherwise even though other applications were saying Flash wasn’t installed. After I uninstalled Flash (before reinstallation) the email program wouldn’t open as then it realized there was no Flash. So now with Flash reinstalled, the email program is working again and the graphic has returned.

I’ll post back after a few days or so the results … hopefully it’ll be to report no more problems.

Thanks for suggestions. I just went to https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html to check the Flash Player and it’s again telling me it’s not installed so “poof” it’s self-destructed again.

Hopefully I’ll get some time in the next few days to try the manual reinstall first following Sudo15’s link. I’ll report back when I have some results.

      At IE11 Tools/Safety, is Active X Filtering checked/ticked?

      Nope, not checked.

Thanks for the very quick reply.

Shockwave Flash and Flash Player are two different things.

My comment about Shockwave Flash came from watching the video at https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/install-flash-player-windows.html which at 1:10 says that Shockwave Flash Object is another name for Flash Player.

It is working now again after I reinstalled so does look like the installation completes but the next time it disappears I’ll try your manual download and see if it changes anything.

dg1261 – Yes, that’s pretty much the conclusion I came to – see post #5.

The scanner may not know (or care) about this, so its worth checking it isn’t using colour unnecessarily.

Thanks, but no, it’s a big Sharp multifunction copier/printer/scanner/fax and scanner default is B&W. You have to tell it if you want color.

If the blank pages are uniformly spaced, PDFill can automatically delete all odd or even pages as applicable.

No, they are scattered all over the place. Could be anywhere from one to ten pages of text between blanks.

    • in reply to: Any way to remove blank pages from PDF? #1536494

Thanks all. Looks like PDFill requires manually selecting the pages to be removed so that would be too much work, however Axpertsoft looks like a solution if I need to go there. I’m far from an expert here so was just assuming that a lot of blank pages would increase file size but if no significant effect, then there’s probably no need to bother to remove them. I’ll do a test run with a small “stack” of pages – one with all text pages and a second with half of them blanks to see if there’s any difference. The documents are all just text so scanning will be in the default black and white, no color required.

I will however keep PDFill in mind – I might have some other uses for that.

Most monitors will have a Auto Reset function that can be accessed by the buttons on the monitor.

Duh! Should have been the first thing I tried. I hadn’t noticed that function as was sort of hidden on a lower level of the menu … should be the first thing you see on a menu.

Anyway, when I found it, that solved the problem. Still don’t know what screwed it up in the first place but doesn’t matter. Thanks DrWho.

Incidentally that show was one of my favourites especially all the early years.
