      Have you run a good defrag program?

      You might try this one http://www.auslogics.com/en/software/disk-defrag/

      Auslogics Disk Defrag is a compact and fast defragmenter that supports both FAT 16/32, and NTFS file systems. It is supplied with advanced optimization techniques, which will remedy your system sluggishness and crashes caused by files fragmentation.

      Optimizes file system

      This tool will speed up your computer and make it run more smoothly by moving system files to the faster part of the disk and clearing the MFT Reserved Zone from regular data files.

      Consolidates free space

      Disk Defrag doesn’t only defragment files – it prevents further files fragmentation by merging free space on the disk into a large contiguous block.

      Can defrag automatically

      You can set the program to run automatically when your system goes idle. It will analyze the disks and defragment them in the background if required. With this feature your files fragmentation will be eliminated as soon as it occurs.

      hope that helps

      I had a problem allowing Acronis True Image Home 2009 to make a partition on my C: and then by activating started up recovery manager on my Toshiba Vista Home Premium. The computer having a hidden Toshiba partition conflicted with the start-up recovery and i was unable to access the computer that.
      Took Toshiba recovery disk to gain access, whatever occurred i should just like to mention approach using recovery manger with caution

      I have all the service packs for Office 2000 on disks I got from M$ for free quite some time ago. If needs be, I would gladly give a copy to you.

      Ken Hess might like that. Thank you for your kind offer Lee, i’ve to (somewhere) have a copy of the free Microsoft disk containing SP2 and Sp3, at the moment I’m kind of homeless and what few processions i have are scared about. But many thanks for your offer
      thanks Lee

      I also am happy to recommend Revo Uninstaller and Auslogics free Defrag program.
      Auslogics also offer an excellent free Registry Cleaner, I probably run that once a month.

      On Vista Home Premium I regularly run Ccleaner, jv16 and Auslogics defrag.

    • in reply to: Toshiba locks-up Vista Home Premium #1219031

      Have tried running file checker?
      I have vista home premium and had similar but don’t think it was once a day.
      Perhaps try Revo clean function, Ccleaner, jv16 and a good defrag like the free version Auslogics puts out, and run Auslogics Optimize function, that’s found under the Action menu not the advanced as the latter cost money.
      Piriform (Ccleaner) now put out another free program called Speccy which generates :-

      What’s in your computer? If you’re like most of us, you can probably name the processor (Intel or AMD, Celeron or Pentium), maybe how much RAM it has, and maybe how big the hard drive is.

      When you go to a computer store and see all the bright shiny PCs laid out next to each other, most will have tags or stickers indicating the:

      * Processor brand and model
      * Hard drive size and speed
      * Amount of memory (RAM)
      * Graphics card
      * Operating system

      Two or three years later, when it comes time to upgrade your computer, that tag or sticker may be long gone. Speccy was designed as a free electronic “what’s inside” sticker for your PC.

      However it displays more than that and worth a look i think.

      Thank you for your reply, however i have Office 2000 Premium which is fully patched with Sp1, Sp2 and Sp3, I rely on Kaspersky Internet Security Anti-Virus for my computers security, my front line defence is Mailwasher, my default browser if FireFox, and have IE and my Trillian chat running in Kaspersky’s Sand Box.
      It would take no mre than twenty minutes to restore my whole system from the a selection Acronis True Image back-ups stored off mu computer.
      When I brought my first Office suit (32 floopy disks) I owned the program and Microsoft had contractual obligation to fix faults in it. They wouldn’t, they refused, instead Microsoft stole what belonged to me when they released new versions that then stated Gates still owned it.
      Anyway i then purchased Office 2000 Premium which does all i need, and though accept your right to express that sort of view, I am not willing in any event to appease the world biggest thief by purchasing another second rate incomplete Office suite when i already have what i need.

      I recently ran fowl of Yahoo mail by running my Trillian Chat program in Kaspersky’s Sand Box, hehe, Trillian notifies new mail in Yahoo and had been opening yahoo from that notice. The other day Yahoo would no longer load correctly and thought showed Inbox it wouldn’t load so have since had to open new browser not running in Sand Box. I run IE in the sand box but have Firefox set as default, opening Firefox from within Trillian loads FireFox in Sand Box, seems can’t do that any more. Yahoo is surely the worst free mail service, have thought that since they deleted all my photo they had promised could have free upload for them, YAHOO Yahoo

    • in reply to: Faxing from PC #1210901

      I have a Toshiba Laptop with Vista Home Premium I found the installed fax-smart modem wont fax. On researching i found Microsoft blocked fax because they consider Home Basic and Premium are for home use only, and fax is for business, bla bla bla.
      I checked out heaps of fax software and the only one I found capable of installing the FAX DRIVER in the printer folder is a shareware program called Fax Machine. Its installs the Fax Driver no worries and works just fine. http://www.nicocuppen.com/
      I’m running version 4.32, i mention that because i downloaded the latest version (you get free updates) and couldn’t get it to work at all, I’m not sure whether was corrupt download or what happened but i reinstalled the 4.32 version and WORKS FINE FOLKS

      I’m relatively new at using REVO and CCLEANER and have some questions. I’ve recently used REVO to uninstall McAfee AV, and it seemed to work okay, but CCLEANER then found 39 bits — most of them McAfee — in the registry that needed removing. Since CCLEANER has it’s own uninstaller, why not simply use it ==instead== of REVO?

      Also: I don’t know if this is a flaw in REVO, but when you click on the Hunter Mode Icon, it takes you off the REVO page and you end up on the desktop along with the Hunter Mode Icon. Did my download of REVO scew up somehow or is that the way it’s supposed to work?

      If a program doesn’t appear in the uninstall program list, yet you know the program is installed on your computer. You start that program with Hunter Mode running then when the program starts you click on the Hunter Icon and tell Revo to uninstall it. Thats what its for

    • in reply to: Office 2000 instead of 2007 – installation issue #1210678

      I have Vista Home Premium OS, and with the acceptation of Outlook 2000, I have my full Office Premium 2000 installed ok, it’s patched with its own version of SP1 SP2 and SP3 and is set to run in Windows 2000 mode.
      Recently I ran into a problem when I installed the latest SP2 for vista, and after exchanging mail with Microsoft Update Support there answer appeared to me to be, uninstall 2000 and purchase Office 2007.
      “Rats thought I”, and installed an earlier image backup made prior to the vista update SP1.
      Did that because SP2 appeared to continue to block my Office 2000 install with three registry entries, eventually I was able to gain permissions over just two of those so went right back to prior SP1 to get rid that to. Windows update no longer updates my computer, good riddens…

      If the other posted reply didn’t help…

      REVO Un-installer program is able to get rid of trial versions of Office 2007; some aspects of the program were made to do just that. Free version will do it.
      Would likely be better to uninstall the trial Office 2007 before installing 2000, though you don’t have to, I needed to repair my Office 2000 after the occasion I got rid of 2007 programs with Revo, no problem though.
      Revo is an excellent program for cleaning up left over Registry Entries from un-installed programs. E.g. you might try uninstalling the current problematic install of Office 2000, removing all its registry entries and then making a new clean install. The second to last function in Revo invites removal of all the listed Registry Entries, select all and click on the delete. Next function offers to remove any left over text files, likewise I select all and delete all…

    • in reply to: Security Centre no longer supports Kaspersky #1197303

      Have you tried turning Windows Fire wall completely off, (you may need to check its advanced setting to see whats its blocking to) then run Kaspersky repair tool, if you can’t find it start the program uninstall process.
      Run its repair and see if that sorts it, if not i agree upgrade
      My OS is Vista Premium on renewal I needed to install KISS 2010, now have build 9.0.0.736, so dit-to update to 2010
