Hi Joe and thanks for the suggested.

 I don’t understand your response Fascist Nation; it simply reads: ‘following’ (1 word).

Also I should have mentioned in my initial post that my desktop computer has internet access via a thumbdrive. I rarely use this thumbdrive in conjunction with the laptop.

      Thanks Charles.

      Thanks Rick

I can rest-at-ease and update, I can kick myself for never noticing this update option.
As an added question – (this may be a dumb question) – is it possible to automatically download/install any consecutive updates without any human intervention?

      Robko,

      Care to share how?

      1. Highlight any/or all text to change, and press CRTL+H to summon the ‘find & replace dilogue box.
      2. Click the ‘more’ button, followed by ‘special’
      3. Click the very 1st option (paragraph mark) and the relevant symbol will appear in the dialogues ‘find what’ field.
      4. In the ‘replace with’ type in any character/s, and click ‘replace.

To start off the Paragraph Marks must be showing.
Hopefully the attached screendump will give you a better idea of what the original thesaurus looked like (every group of synonyms ended in a blank)

Using this method it’s also possible to amalgamate a word which doesn’t fit on one line into one complete word. Only this time select ‘optional hyphen’, and leave the find what’ field blank; and finally click ‘replace’.

I’ll admit I’m no Word guru but I have managed to solve both scanning issues.

    • in reply to: What’s the secret to getting Win 10? #1523409

Thanks for your input guys. Dogberry’s word’s of wisdom (early adopters are guinea pigs) convinced me to stay on 8.1.

Would anyone possibly know of the process for instructing the computer to abandon getting Win 10?

    • in reply to: Is this possible? #1522503

OK, thanks – I’ll give it a try over the weekend.

Thanks for your input everyone – I got it back.

    • in reply to: Is this possible? #1522070

Thanks for responding RetiredGeek – I will give this a try tonight.
If it is remotely possible, you don’t explain what steps to take.

Thanks Bruce, I’ll give it a try tonight.

    • in reply to: MP4Gain/paypal enquiry #1506824

Thanks for the suggestion JWoods, but I can’t lodge a complaint as I don’t have a credit card or a Paypal acct/password; someone at work offered to make this transaction for me, but she doesn’t work here anymore.

I doubt that Paypal is the guilty party as the receipt shows who handled this sale.
      Any other suggestions?

    • in reply to: How do we get rid of this malware? #1505508

My Win 7 system also recently had malware (which I originally thought was a virus), where I was suffering from frequent pop-up’s.
The in-home technician that I booked came and mentioned that ‘Rkill’ is a effective removal tool for malware, which is a free download.

Originally I Googled the procedure for removing people.
Then, with a lot of persuasion she finally revealed her login details and from there on I followed Googles directions.
